Chaeyoung's POV
"Ah, I'm so full!" Jisoo exclaimed, patting her protruding stomach.
Our group had just exited the restaurant, welcoming the chilling cold.
"Well, what do you guys want to do now?" Jennie asked the group, "Personally, I want to get some rest. I'm tired. And it's cold."
"Later tonight there's a firework show at around eight," Lisa contributed, "Taehyung and I are planning to watch it."
"There's a firework show?!" I exclaimed- perhaps a bit to enthusiastically. I felt my cheeks warm up and I looked down. "Sorry, I've always been a sucker for fireworks. I don't know what it is about them, but I just really love them."
Lisa laughed, "You can join us? I wouldn't mind, but I don't know about him..." She looked over to her lover.
I shook my head, "Nah, I don't want to be a third wheeler. I'll be fine alone."
"Alone? This late at night?" Jennie intervened, "I can come along if you want. I'll gladly sacrifice my rest time."
Again I shook my head and I smiled. "Yes, I can handle myself. Trust me."
"We know you can, I've experienced it myself first hand..." Jungkook joined in, "But that's besides the point. Who knows that someone may overpower you and no one's there to help you? I'll come with you. I wanted to see the fireworks too anyways."
"But-"
"No buts Chaeyoung," Jisoo intervened, "anyway, isn't it more fun having a companion?"
I nodded my head, defeated, "I guess so."
Jisoo shared a knowing smile with both Jennie and Lisa. I raised my eyebrows.
"There's no... motive for this, hmm?" I questioned the three suspiciously.
Jennie was the one to answer, and because she's such a good liar, I couldn't tell if she was telling the truth or not, "Nope, it's only for your safety."
I glanced at Jungkook, who was trying his best to avoid my gaze. "Alright, I guess I'll go with Jungkook." I said, dragging my words.
"I know you're excited."
Hush mind! I'm not excited!
"Uh huh, you tell yourself that." Inner Chaeyoung replied.
Great, I was now having an internal conflict with my own mind. And yes, I do not like Jungkook!
"-go?" Jungkook finished.
I snapped out of my thoughts, "Huh? Uh, yeah!" I sheepishly replied.
"You want to step on lego?" Jungkook asked, his face contorted in confusion.
"What? No, those things hurt!"
Jungkook burst out in laughter, "I'm just kidding, I asked if you were ready to go, but it seems someone was lost in their own world." He said accusingly.
"Okay, guilty as charged." I glanced down at my phone. "What time was the fireworks show again?"
"It's in ten minutes!" Lisa piped in, "So we better hurry up!" She grabbed Taehyung's hand and dragged him towards the direction of the fireworks show, which caught him my surprise.
"Whoa!" Taehyung exclaimed.
I laughed at the sight of the two.
"We should get going too." Jungkook said behind me.
I turned around, "Let's go! I want to get a good spot."
"You guys have fun!" Jisoo cheered before leaving towards who knows where with Jin.
"Don't be out too late!" Jennie added.
Jennie awkwardly bowed towards Jongin's direction before leaving for the hotel.
There were only three of us left. Jongin stared at Jennie's retreating figure for a few seconds before turning back to us.
He patted Jungkook's shoulder, "Good luck little brother." He teased before throwing a salute towards me and leaving for what I'm assuming is the place he's staying for the time being.
I pondered on his farewell, "What did he mean by that?"
Jungkook shoved his hands in his jacket pockets, "Nothing, let's go!" I noticed his ears were red.
-
"Ahh, it's starting! Hurry!" I exclaimed as I ran towards an open spot on a bench.
"Don't run! It's slippery out here." Jungkook said worriedly.
I panted as I reached the bench, and looked up towards the exploding colors consuming the night sky.
Jungkook jogged up to the bench, "Slow poke." I joked.
"Hey, if we had an actual race I would win." He replied competitively.
"Really? Bet." I challenged.
"Bet. The person who loses has to grant the winner's wish."
"Easy. Once it's warm enough, we'll race."
"Easy? We'll see about that." Jungkook replied confidently.
I turned my attention towards the fireworks, "Ahh, this is why I love these shows. The fireworks are so beautiful."
"Pretty..." Jungkook murmured under his breathe.
"See? Even you agree." I said, glancing towards his direction, but he wasn't paying attention to the fireworks. He had his gaze on me instead.
I broke away from the unexpected eye contact, and admired the fireworks once again. My heartbeat quickened. Why was he looking at me? Could he have meant that statement for me and not the fireworks? And why is my heart beating so fast?
"I think I'm having a heart attack." I muttered, placing a hand on my chest.
"What was that?" Jungkook asked.
"Uh, nothing important." I sighed as the firework show reached its conclusion.
Jungkook raised his eyebrows as he stood up from the bench and offered me his hand, "If you say so... Anyway, let's go before it gets too late."
I took his hand. They were sweaty.
