Ferris
Five long agonizing weeks. Five weeks I had to wait for things to calm down even just the tiniest bit. I called Fraener and Zaelyn whenever I could for hours on end.
Now it was the night before we were supposed to go to Zaelyn's home and I was ecstatic. I was having dinner when my mother broke our usual silence. "Ferris! You'll choke if you continue to eat like that!"
I looked up at my two parents, mainly at the disapproving face of my father. I set down my fork with the half-eaten tomato and wiped my mouth with my cloth. "I do hope you won't act like this when you visit Zaelyn and Fraener." Father grumbled before spearing his fish with his knife. "Fine young men, aren't they dear? I remember when they were still children!" Mother sighed. I slumped back into my seat. Here they go again. "Helliux and Libelle have done marvellous jobs raising them."
I rolled my eyes. "They'll have suitors and consorts lined up by the dozen!" I blocked out anything else they had to say and excused myself. This feeling that I got was a weird mixture between anger and sadness, but it wasn't exactly either one. I got to my room and entered our group call thing. I have no idea what it is but Zaelyn said it let us all call all together. Fraener was the first to pick up this time.
"Hi Fraener.." I mumbled still trying to figure out what I was feeling. "Ferris! Are you packed for tomorrow?" He asked, easing this weird feeling just a bit. "Uh-huh.." I responded.
It was silent. Too silent. "Is something wrong? Did something happen?" I sighed. "I-I don't know. I was having dinner with my parents when they started talking about you and Zaelyn,"
"Was it good?"
"Of course it was. Then they started talking about how suitors you guys would have."
"Ohh.."
I bit down on my lip. "Then I got this weird feeling. I felt angry and sad." I admitted hoping it was the right move to make. "You mean jealousy?" He chuckled, easing my nerves. "I'm such a bad boyf- a bad, uhh-"
"Boyfriend?"
The word sent shivers down my spine. It made my cheeks tingle and my lips twitch with a smile. "You can call yourself that. And you're not a bad boyfriend." He reassured. My heart was about to explode. "I-I didn't mean to- I just, err thanks.." I choked out. He laughed again. It was so sweet sounding. "You're too cute.." He muttered into the phone. I could feel myself morphing into a tomato. "I'm sorry? Was that too soon? Or weird?" He asked.
"No. I like being called cute.." I stated, my face burning more. Then I got a alert telling me Zaelyn had joined. "I hope you two have done anything without poor old me," Zaelyn's voice chimed in. I sat up and shuffled around as Urla jumped into my lap. She meowed a hello, then pawed at my hand. "Stop it. I'm talking to my 'boyfriends'." I mouthed to the small white feline. She purred. Fraener and Zaelyn were talking about something that I wasn't paying attention to. I was focused on my cat. She gave me this look as if to say 'whore'.
"Don't give me that look! You're the one that said I shouldn't go out and talk to them!" I mumbled. Urla hissed before padding off after her food. "Ferris?" Zaelyn's voice cut through my ears like a hot knife. "S-Sorry, I'm still here.."
Urla meowed somewhere in my room again. "I can't wait to see you tomorrow. You should see my bed! It was built to fit as many as twenty supernatruals!" He cheered, probably with a smile. Only Zaelyn would boast about having a huge bed. "Is it comfortable?" I asked. Beds aren't exactly a fun subject. I heard Fraener snort. "Well it could be more than comfortable.."
Before I could inquire him further there was a knock at the door. "Ferris? It's your father," his voice invaded my safe bubble. "Come in!" I shouted before hanging up on the two men. "I hope we didn't ruin your evening.." He sternly spoke, his green eyes lingering on mine. "Not at all, father." I mumbled which he didn't seem to like. "Speak up, Ferris. You can't rule a kingdom by muttering orders!" He snapped. Every single time we speak it's always about being king. "I just felt ill." I said a little louder.
"The only reason your mother and I were talking about suitors was because we're already gaining a pool of suitors for yourself." He admitted. I stared at him with shock. "Yo-You mean you already have consorts?" I asked. "Don't stutter- and yes, we do."
Urla jumped onto the bed and pressed her body against my leg. "Your mother is so excited to plan the dates and I can't wait to meet my future son-in-law!" He happily barked. I meekly smiled too. If only he knew that I already found my suitors. But he couldn't.
We both sighed but they were far different in mood. "I hope you'll be on your best behaviour, tomorrow. Helliux is a serious king who rules his home with an iron-fist." He warned. I nodded in understanding. "Don't stay up too late." He ordered before leaving my room. My father's presence always made the atmosphere feel heavy and caused the air to weigh me down.
I joined the call again and listened to them talk for awhile. It helped calm me down. "Ferris? Is everything alright?" Fraener asked, cutting Zaelyn off from his rant. "Hey! I was talking!" The Incubus yelled.
"Shut up, Zae."
"No! I was in the middle of talking and you cut me off-"
"My father said he already has my suitors." I blurted out. I was panicking and I didn't know why. Neither one of then seemed to know what to say next. "It was going to happen sooner or later I just didn't realize 'sooner or later' meant now.." I choked out. They kept their mouths shut. Why weren't they talking? "S-Sorry I'm just being an idiot,"
Nothing but silence. Oh god, did I say something wrong? I might've just ruined the best thing that could've possibly happened to me-
"You're still ranting! Ferris was about to explain what was troubling him!"
"Oh please! He would've just told us what was wrong.."
The call crackled back into my ears. It must've dropped. I didn't say anything wrong. "Right, Ferris?" Zaelyn asked. I wiped away the tears that I didn't even notice were running down my cheeks. "Nothing's wrong. I'm just so excited to see you guys tomorrow." I excused. I was too shaken up to repeat that again. "See? Everything's fine!" Zaelyn cheered.
I munched on my bottom lip. "I have to go. I love you guys,"
"Aww, I love you too!" Zaelyn squealed.
"Love you too." Fraener mused.
I hung up and threw my phone aside. I always got a rush saying those four words. I flicked off the lights and slipped under my covers. I felt Urla's paws as she trodded on top of me. She meowed, and even in the darkness I could tell she was judging me. "Oh shut up. I really do love them!"
She hissed. "Go to sleep."
