Lucian

Just a quick heads up, an innocent animal dies in this chapter! I don't really consider it gory but others might and could be triggered by death so this is your warning. Enjoy!

I was panting hard with my tongue lolling from my mouth. This stupid rabbit wouldn't sit still and now I was chasing it though the woods. The sun beams that managed to make it through to canopy of leaves overhead made the furs on my back feel warm, which was a nice change from the harsh weather of winter.

Food was getting scarce and the hollow log I was sleeping in provided no warmth. Luckily, my food situation was about to improve even if just for now. I was so caught up in my own thoughts I didn't realize I was now leaving the forest and entering a snowy meadow. I ignored the sudden exposure and the burning in my paws and continued my hunt.

The rabbit was getting tired and now it was starting to send signals on what it was about to do. I could tell by the way it slowed down ever so slightly it was about to make a sharp turn. I put weight on my hind legs and pounced to my left, uccessfully pinning it under my paws. It squirmed until I extended my claws and tore out its throat. Blood splattered onto my snout and the snow, painting the ground red and pink while whatever life it had left drained out, shown by the small twitches and subtle kicks of its legs. If I could smile, I would have.

I looked up and around. Shit. I don't remember where I came from. The sun was setting and by the way the wind picked up I could tell a snowstorm was coming. I picked the corpse up with my mouth. I tried to follow my paw-prints but the wind was blowing snow onto my tracks.

And just like that I was stranded in the middle of a snowstorm, my vision hazed by the white fog. I should've been more careful! My movements were laboured as I began to shiver. The blood dripping from the rabbit probably would have turned to red icicles at this point which also meant my fur was crusted with frozen rabbit blood. I entered the woods again but at this point I was a shivering mess. I tried to drop the rabbit but it was slightly frozen to my mouth.

I wandered around for what felt like hours until I spotted the a faint glow of orange. A fire? I used every ounce of my strength to drag myself towards the light, eventually finding the source. It was a big wooden box with a pointed head in a small circular clearing. I dared to walk closer. It was made of logs and the orange light was coming from a small hole on the side. There were more, smaller logs stacked near the hole so I used my front legs to hoist myself up, peering into the hole. There was a fire inside! It was in a strange stone thingy. I pressed my muzzle, desperately trying to feel it's warmth when I bumped into something. What the hell?!

There was nothing there. I pressed my muzzle against it and I was met with a resistance. I could faintly see my reflection, like when I looked into water. I tried to claw my way in, fully aware that the rabbit was still handing limp from my mouth when the logs I were in rolled from underneath me and I fell flat on my stomach.

I whimpered. I was cold, starving and now I was hurt. I looked at the logs and noticed more light coming from a small hole covered up my the logs. I pawed at the remaining wood until it rolled my way and I could see a hole. It was small enough for me to fit through. I wasn't too big, so I could just about squeeze into it. I tried putting my head through, but this goddamn rabbit was preventing me from laying my head flat! Without another choice, I reluctantly stopped my head and used my paw to hold one of the legs down. I chuffed, then quickly whipped my head to the side, effectively ripping the rabbit from my mouth. Fresh blood pooled from the corners of my mouth. I quickly shoved myself through the hole before the blood could dry and into the warm enclosed environment.

It was weirder inside. The floor was like wood, only smoother. I was standing on something fluffy which felt nice against my raw padding. Cold air brushed my behind again, making me grimace. I turned back and noticed that snow was piling in from the hole. I looked up, marveling at a colourful image, kinda like the ones I saw in a cave, only this one was framed. I couldn't tell was it was, but it looked pretty and it was hanging from the wall. It was also big enough to cover the hole.

I jumped for it, clawing at the painting thing until the rope holding it snapped and it fell with a large crash. I stood triumphant. I picking it up using my snout and propped it against the wall, the cold air and snow no longer flowing in. I let out a small breath of relief before slinking over to the fire. Fire was okay in winter, any other time was bad. I've had bad experiences with fires and to be frank I'm scared of them. Only when they get big, though. I've seen one grow bigger than a forest. It ate away at the trees and wildlife, then it ate mom. But this fire was okay- it was small. It couldn't eat me.

I circled the nice fluffy thing below me until I found the right spot near the fire and laid down. I closed my eyes and relished in the warmth instead of the harsh coldness outside. My ears drooped as I became sleepy. I was still hungry, but at least I wasn't going to freeze to death.

I was about to finally give in and sleep until I picked up a faint noise, almost like creaking. My sense came flooding back to me in an instant and I shot up, the hairs on my back standing up. I followed the noise, entering a seperate area of the whatever I was in. There was a drying rack for meat and the floor was no longer wood, instead it was cold stone. My stomach growled and I almost forgot about the noise I heard.

I went to maybe snag a peice of what I smelt to be deer meat when the noise sounded from behind me, only closer. I whipped around fast enough to see a tall figure looming above me. He was huge and bulky, holding a sharp silver thing in one hand. The look on his face held remorse for what he was about to do. I snarled at him, barring my canines and I crouched low, readying to pounce.

As I was about jump for his throat he brought the sharp thing over his head and slammed it down. My instincts kicked in and I turned left to dodge it but I was late and he managed to drag the knife from my ear down to my shoulder blade. I made a howl of pain when my brain registered the sharp hot pain flaring from my side. I whined, blood seeping from the wound and into my fur when I hit the floor.

Was I going to die? I didn't have time to think about that as my eyes began to close. The hunger and pain was too overwhelming for me as I began to lose consciousness. I whimpered when I felt a hand on my wound, pressing down on it. We're they trying to give me more pain instead of killing me swiftly? I tried to shuffle away further but the pain was making me weak. My vision became splotchy, then I truly lost conscious.

I've decided to make this into a three part series! So the actual story Their Fae will be delayed for just a little! This is a reward, after all so I hope I didn't anger you all by my desicion!
