The newlywed couple had been in Whistler for just a couple of days now, enjoying the various tours and events that the resort and city had to offer, per Camila’s request. The last two days had been chock full of traveling about the snow-coated city and retaining useless facts that Lauren honestly had no interest in. She bared through the gruelingly long days of sightseeing and monotonous tour guides for her wife’s sake, but today was finally her day and she wanted to do something that could actually be considered fun.

“Baby, please don’t make me go!” Camila whined, tugging at her wife’s winter coat in hopes of swaying her decision. “You know how I feel about heights, Lauren. I would literally rather be anywhere else.”

Lauren laughed at her wife’s reluctance, gripping her lovingly by the hips. “Camz, we’ve done what you’ve wanted to do the last two days. It’s my turn to pick and you aren’t allowed to say no.”

Camila pouted, resting her head on Lauren’s shoulder in defeat. “I’m gonna die up there - I hope you know that. I hope you’re prepared to live without me,” She posed dramatically.

"You better not die, Camz. You’ll ruin our honeymoon,” Lauren jested, tugging her wife closer by her belt loops. “Besides, I’ll be up there with you the whole time. You have nothing to worry about.”

Camila was all for trying new things; she prided herself on being open-minded and optimistic when it came to anything. Snowboarding, however, was a deadly combination of all of her low points: fear of heights, utter lack of coordination, and shamefully bad balance. The fact that this particular activity involved soaring downhill at an uncomfortably high speed made Camila even more afraid of what awful outcomes might ensue. Unfortunately, Lauren was right. It was her turn to choose the day’s activity and she had been dying to snowboard all of her life.

With her face nuzzled in the crook of Lauren’s neck, Camila groaned in annoyance. “Are you sure you wouldn’t rather spend the day inside? We could cuddle and watch movies and do other things…”

Smiling to herself, Lauren raised her eyebrows at the tempting offer. “I would love that, babe,” She cooed, kissing her wife softly on her forehead. “But I’d rather watch you struggle on a snowboard. So, let’s go.”

With another miffed groan, Camila zipped her winter jacket up and proceeded to be eagerly lead out the door by her wife. Within a half hour, the two were trekking their way to the ski lift and taking their seats as the cable car began moving. It was clear, by this point, that Camila was already wracked with nerves. Her eyes remained glued to the floor for the entirety of the ride, afraid that looking down might entail falling. Lauren, on the other hand, was easily taking in the beauty of the snow-blanketed mountain and the sight of the resort from afar. Keeping her eyes fixed on the sight, afraid she might possibly miss an intricate detail, Lauren took her wife’s hand in her own, giving it an encouraging squeeze as the car came to a halt at the top of the mountain.

Camila took a deep breath in, squeezing her wife’s hand for support as they cautiously dismounted the ski lift and retreated under the gazebo before them. The brisk air had become increasingly cooler once they reached the peak of the mountain, causing Camila to clutch her torso desperately. She stuck close by her undeterred wife as they approached a group of tourists standing in a line before the ski instructor. The man in question looked more than seasoned, likely having glided across these slopes for years. As afraid as Camila was to plummet down a mountain at full speed, she felt slightly safer knowing she would be under the care of a ‘professional' and her loving wife.

She and Lauren fell in line with the group of beginners and tuned in on what the instructor was talking about.

“Two new boarders! Welcome, ladies,” He rang, clasping his gloved hands together with a wide, toothy smile across his face. “I was just telling our other guests here that we’re all going to start out on the designated beginner’s slope. It’s not too steep and real easy to learn on. This’ll give you all a chance to test the waters, see if you don’t mind trying a steeper hill next time around.”
