We both check out our books and begin walking back to our apartments.
"Okay so I was meaning to ask you, how do you like it here? Is it a complete culture shock from South Korea? How long have you been here?"
"I do enjoy it. The weather is beautiful and always sunny. I actually visited here a couple times as a kid and teenager so it wasn't completely new. I moved in over the summer so I've been here for a couple of months. I took two summer classes and now I am finishing up and will graduate at the end of the year."
"That's honestly so great! LA is such an amazing place and it has so much to offer. I think it's a great place to study. And wow so you are a Senior? Must be exciting to almost be done with school and continue the next part of your life."
"I am happy but also a little nervous. I do not have a complete plan after graduation so this year I will plan it out."
"Do you think you'll return home or stay in LA?"
"It depends. I can always go back and work for my Dad's company or I can apply to jobs here. That is what I need to figure out."
"Hmm must be a tough decision. At least you are in a demanding field, that way you have many options and finding a job won't be an issue."
"That is true. Let's see what UCLA and LA have in store for me."
We reach the building and make our way to the elevator.
"So which floor are you on?" he asks.
"Third" I push the button.
"This is funny, so am I. Which apartment number?"
"3101, you?"
"3102."
I snort out of laughter. "What are the chances? So even if I didn't run into you at the library I would have seen you here."
"Yeah and then you could have called me handsome while I was taking out the garbage or on my way to do laundry." he smirks.
I shake my head remembering my lack of filter earlier.
"You aren't gonna let that go are you?"
"I am not teasing you, think of it as me reminding myself of your compliment."
"You are something else." I remark. "Well it was nice meeting you. And I am sure we will see more of each other around."
"Definitely." he grins. "Have a good night Ms. Jenna"~~~
I begin the next day with a quick jog before classes. I had my schedule set up so I only had classes Monday through Thursday. Most of my classes were in the morning and early afternoon because those were the times I had the most energy and was most alert. Also, I loved having my Fridays free and having a three day weekend. During the afternoons and evenings I worked three times a week. I was continuing my job as a Clerical Assistant for a Mental Health Clinic near campus. I divided my time between supervising and interacting with children while their parents attended therapy sessions and also completing administrative tasks. I began working there last year during Winter quarter and had enjoyed the flexible schedules so I decided to return this year.
It was currently 7am and I had just enough time to squeeze in a quick run before my first class at 9:15am. It was my Children's Literature course and I was really excited to study picture books and Children's Development. I was accustomed to reading novels with 400+ pages and this would be a nice break from my fast paced schedule. This course ended at 10:30am and I had a small break before my nerve wrecking Stats class at 11am. I had reviewed the syllabus and thanks to my encounter with Jimin yesterday, I had my textbook ready. I promised myself I would not become intimidated by the material and I would reach out to my TA and peers for help if I needed clarifications.
I return to my apartment exactly 25 minutes later, slightly out of breath and with reddened cheeks. I jump in the shower and let the cool beads of water cascade down my skin and relax my body. I step out, dress in a burgundy long sleeve and leggings and apply light makeup before heading into the kitchen.
I begin preparing myself a bowl of oatmeal, one of my favorite breakfasts. As I wait for the water to boil I hear my phone ringing from the bedroom. I walk over and see Adam's name on the screen.
"Oh snap" I say out loud after I remember I did not call him back last night.
I answer the call. "Morning babe. Ahh sorry I didn't call you yesterday I was at the library looking for my books and it slipped my mind when I got back."
"Hey you. Yeah I wondered what happened. I can just imagine you trying your hardest trying to reach for any books above your head; that must have taken hours." he jokes.
"Hey I was only there for like an hour and that's because a couple of books were hidden. And I only had trouble with one, but I did have some help!"
"Oh really now?"
"Yeah it was actually kinda funny. So I'm there like jumping up and then this guy comes over and brings it down for me. And we talked for a bit and guess what? He lives in my building. On my floor. And right next door. Can you bel-?""Wait." He interrupts. "You met some guy who's your neighbor? Did he hit on you?"
I roll my eyes. "No Adam. He just helped me out and then we walked back home together."
"You didn't hang out after?"
"No. I just met the guy. Plus I had to prep for class today."
"Oh..okay. And he didn't hit on you?""Nooo nothing like that." I hold back a laugh remembering I was the one who found Jimin attractive.
"Okay well keep your distance."
I sigh, realizing he missed the point of the story and was not remotely interested in all the coincidences.
"Yeah well I have to go now. I'm about to eat breakfast and then head to class. I'll talk to you later. Love you. Bye.""Love you too bye."
I shake my head, half annoyed. Leave it to Adam to take the fun out of my story and become jealous over someone I talked to for less than an hour.
I grab my bowl of oats, top it with walnuts, cinnamon, and a few banana slices before digging in.
After my meal, I clean up and grab my lunch and book bag before stepping out. I smile from ear to ear as I absorb in all the sunshine as NCT's "Touch" plays through my earphones.
I adored bright, sunny days like today. As a vegan, I often joked around with my friends that I needed my daily dose of sun for photosynthesis to maintain my upbeat personality.
As the sunlight dances on my skin, I inhale deeply and smile to myself.
Today was going to be a great day, I could feel it.
