Danger

I close my laptop and sigh in success. Since my time at the library I had completed my quiz, read five chapters of a novel, and one of the articles for my Children's Literature course. It was a super productive afternoon and I could now go home and relax. I could use a warm bath and some Netflix right now.

Jimin had left about an hour ago for class and before he left, I had given him my phone number so that he could let me know whenever he wanted to study together. Besides his comments earlier, there were moments when I would look up from studying and I could have sworn that he had been staring at me. I just brushed it off as my imagination though because if I convinced myself that he was looking, my mind would wander.

I walk back to my apartment and enjoy a peaceful end to my night.

"Hey, are you almost on your way?" I ask into my phone.

"Yeah I left home a little while ago so I'll be there in like 20 minutes."

"Text me when you're outside the building so I can let you in."

"Okay see ya soon. Wear something cute."

"Umm excuuuuse you? I always look amazing."

Adam laughs. "You know what I mean."
"Whatever Rude-ie." I reply, teasing him by his middle name.

"Ughhh I'll be there soon babe."

"Alright bye."

It was a sunny Saturday morning in SoCal and I wanted to wear something 'summery' despite the fact that it was still technically winter.

I decide on a navy blue dress with small, bright floral accents and an ankle length cardigan with golden sandals. I apply foundation, curl my eyelashes, and am finishing with the blush when I get a text from Adam: "I'm here."

I grab my keys and as I am stepping out of my door, I see Jimin walking into his apartment holding a laundry hamper.

"Hey Jimin-oppa."

"Hi Jenna. You know you don't have to call me oppa."

"I know I technically don't but I do want to be respectful, plus I like it. Speaking of, you know you can just call me Jen and not Jenna." I tease.

"I know I technically don't but I do want to be respectful." He copies me.

We both laugh out loud.

"So are you doing laundry today?" I point at the hamper.

"Yeah I have some down time this morning. Where are you off to? You look great by the way."

"Really? Thanks. I'm actually meet-"

"Jenna?" I hear my name called from behind before I can finish answering.

I turn and see Adam walking in my direction.

"Oh hey I was just about to head down. Did someone let you in?"

"Yeah." He looks past me and stares at Jimin.

There is a moment of awkward silence before I say "Oh Jimin-oppa this is Adam. Adam this is Jimin, my neighbor."

Jimin sets down the hamper and extends a hand towards Adam.

Adam hesitates for a second before reaching in.

"Yeah. I'm her boyfriend."

Jimin smirks at this comment before saying "Nice to meet you. Well, both of you have a good one." He looks just in my direction and adds "I'll see you later" and enters his apartment.

Once inside my place we sit on the couch and I offer Adam a glass of water.

He places it on the table, with more force than necessary.

"So that's the guy?"

"Hmm?" I murmur in the middle of taking a sip from my glass.

"That's the guy you were talking about the other day. The one that just so happens to be everywhere you are." He rolls his eyes. "You didn't tell me he looks like a model."

"Wait hold on. He's not following me around or anything. And why does his appearance matter? When I called you I wanted to tell you about the coincidences not describe his looks."

"And what about his looks?" he barks.

I pause for a second, annoyed at his jealousy and also unsure about how to answer.

"Look Adam, he's just an acquaintance. Obviously I am here with you, and we are in a relationship and I love you and that's all that matters." I lean over and kiss him but his lips do not respond, signaling that he's upset.

He puts his hand on my shoulder and pushes me back slightly.

"What did you call him after his name?"

"Oh Jimin-oppa? Oh it's just a Korean formality."

"And why did he say see you later?"

"He didn't mean it literally okay. Like we don't have a planned hang out or anything. I think he meant it more as in 'hey you live next door so I'll most likely see you leaving or entering the building."

"So have you hung out with him?"

"We did study together yesterday."

I notice him raise an eyebrow at me.

"We studied. In the library. For a few hours. In the middle of the day. And that was all."

"And you didn't tell me?"

"We didn't talk much yesterday. I tried calling you last night but you didn't answer, remember?"

"I came back late from work. We have the big pet adoption event today so I had to work overtime and prep for that."

"No I'm not mad or anything, I totally get it. But how do you expect me to have told you then?"
"Whatever I guess."

"Adam c'mon. It's not a big deal. Can we just go on with the day and enjoy the time we have together? Let's take advantage before we both get sucked into our busy weeks on Monday and won't have time for this quality time in person."

"..sure" he mutters.
"Okay I was thinking we could go to Santa Monica and go eat at Pier Burger. And then just walk on the beach."

"You know I don't want sand in my shoes."
"Okay negative Nancy, just take them off before then. So yes or no to the rest of the plan?"

"Yeah we could do that."

"Yay, let's watch some tv and then we can head out in a bit."

I turn on Netflix and play some episodes from Season 2 of That 70's Show.

The entire time I can see that Adam is still tense and he's only looking down at his phone screen.

After three episodes we decide to head over to the beach.
