"hey, mum," junmyeon smiled, running into the restaurant a little late, kissing his mother on the cheek, "i'm sorry, i lost track of time.""it's not a problem, dear. i ordered you a sprite, is that fine?" his mother smiled warmly. junmyeon nodded, sitting down on the opposite booth in front of her.
"yeah, thanks. how've you been, momma?" junmyeon questioned, scanning through the menu.
"i've been well, dear. your father is finally selling that old reclining chair like i've been bugging him to do for the past five years. only problem is, now he's ordering a new one. he's still such a child," his mother huffed, shaking her head, "should we just order different types of noodles?"
"works for me, you can decide," junmyeon nodded, "i'm sure appa isn't very happy about having to sell his chair, though. that thing is ancient. it's been there since before i was born."
"ah, i know," his mother smiled, "it's ugly, worn out, and finally going! but, i didn't plan on talking about old chairs for the entire meal. this boyfriend of yours- yixing? tell me about him."
"well," junmyeon smiled, "he's chinese, but he speaks perfect korean so don't worry about communication issues. he's a real army brat, his father was in the army for over fourteen years."
"wow," his mother nodded, impressed, "how old is yixing himself? has he done military service?"
"he's gonna be nineteen the first of october," junmyeon answered, "which i know is young, but he's very mentally mature."
"ah, that's a relief. i was worried you were dating someone with the mindset of a child," his mother breathed out, small laugh leaving her lips, "have you any photos of him?"
"yeah, let me find them," junmyeon nodded, pulling his cell phone out. while he did that, his mother quickly ordered the food, then turning her full attention back to her son.
"here," junmyeon said, showing a photo to his mom. her mouth dropped open.
"woah," she said, "that's gonna be my son in law? my grand babies will be so good-looking!"
"mum!" junmyeon said, cheeks warming up, "a bit louder, huh? i'm pretty sure the chefs in the kitchen didn't hear you quite right!"
"sorry," she smiled, "is he smart, or does he just have a nice face?"
"he's brilliant," junmyeon said, "you know, not only did he graduate his high school early, but he graduated valedictorian, too. he skipped three grades and still did better than everyone. he's a proper genius."
"oh my god, my grandchildren really will be perfect," his mother said happily, "he's a dancer, you said?"
"yeah, he goes to SM. he's graduating soon," junmyeon hummed, "mum, he's perfect."
"thought you didn't believe in perfect, dear?" his mother said smartly, their food being placed in front of them. they quickly thanked the waiter before going back to talking.
"i don't, but if perfect exists, he's the entire embodiment of it," junmyeon sighed, then whining, "mumma, he's so sweet and handsome and smart and i'm just over here looking like a potato."
"yes, i agree. he sounds too good to be true, though," his mother said, "when does your father and i get to meet him?"
"maybe thanksgiving," junmyeon thought, "anything before that would be too soon."
"oh, so lovely! does he prefer turkey or ham?" his mother smiled excitedly, "and does he cook?"
"honestly? i don't know," junmyeon said, "i really only just met him. i think we did everything backwards- we stuck a label on it before the first date, i learned his deepest secrets before learning his favorite color. what's next? marriage before a year?"
