All That Matters 2

EIGHTEEN

It was Friday and today the girls were going to Jay's house. I knew it was gonna be hard because this is the first they wouldn't be with me and Jay. Together. We still had our partners but Dawson and Kevin had taken the day off for PTO time.

"Hey sarge?" Upton asks going into Hank's office.

"Yeah?"

"Um I was thinking I could be partenrs with Al today, it might help Jay and Erin get things cleared."

"Yeah that's fine." Hank said.

Hank had sent a message to meet us for the case.

"She was found last night and a dog was barking, I guess that woman over there heard it called police as soon as she saw the woman." Hailey said.

"Alright you and Al go over there and ask questions." Hank said to Hailey as they went over there.

"Halstead and Linsday come over here for a minute."

We walked over to him and then he started to talk again. "I don't know what's going on with you two but Erin if you decide to go to Ohio, you better think of the kids and don't let this affect work. Partner up today. Upton's request." Hank,said walking around us.

I knew that Jay was gonna question me about what Hank just said but I tried to ignore it. I walked away from Jay but then he ran up to me and grabbed my arm. "What is he talking about? You're gonna leave."

"Jay."

"Erin I will fight for them! You-- you can't go to Ohio and take the gir-"

"I already turned it down Jay! Dont worry about it! I'm not gonna take them away from you!" I said walking away hearing Jay's footsteps follow behind me.

We got in the car and drove to where Hank told us to go, and I didn't want to say anything.

"About earlier--"

"Jay I really don't care okay? I would've understood if you were upset they are your kids too."

"So how are they-- the girls?"

"Well they are better than they were last night. They both came to sleep in our-- my bed." I said that and Jay stayed quiet.

I know for sure I didn't wanna be seperated but I didn't know if he didn't.

"Listen its still gonna be some getting used to me living there.... without you alone."

"Erin, we might be seperated but you're still my wife."

"Right." I said nodding my head and staying quiet.

Later that night the girls had their bags packed and they waited on the couch for Jay.

He got there and knocked on the door and the girls rose from the couch "Why does he have to knock its still his house." Remy said.

I opened the door seeming excited that he was taking them but we had to do that for them.

"Hey guys!" Jay said walking in.

"Hi." Nadia said sounding angry, which she probably was.

"You guys got-got your stuff?"

"Yep I'm going outside now." Nadia said walking out the door.

"Me too." Remy said following Nadia.

"Okay."

"So um just call me and I'll come over if they need me." I say looking out the door.

"Okay. Bye." Jay said walking out the door.

"Bye! Bye girls I love you!"

I closed the door when they left and everything seemed so quiet. This wasn't like the New York trip, this felt different. Maybe because I knew Jay wasnt coming home.

"Alright so this is the place." Jay said as they walked in the door.

"We have an xbox and tv and we've got lots of food and you guys should go see your room! Remy you have the bottom bunk and Nadi your on the top."

They stay silent and so Jay continues.

"And look out the window right there!" Jay says trying to make them happy."

"You have a pool! Can we go swimming?" Remy asks.

"Of course!"

"But we didn't bring our suits." Nadia says.

"Well good thing I bought you two new ones on your beds! Go go go!!" Jay says as they run to their room.

He tries to stay happy for them. But all he could think about was how happy they used to be.

He wanted to get back to that but he couldn't not with what Erin did.

I layed in my bed for hours and I couldn't sleep, at all I was tossing and turning thinking about the girls and Jay. I finally gave up I couldn't sleep in my bed and so I went to Remy's bed and I eventually fell asleep on her bed.

Maybe it would get easier in time but for now its super hard.
