"Hank Voight. Sargeant of Narcotics Intelligence Unit. May he rest in peace with his family above." Commander said.
This was the time for the unit to say something about Hank. Platt went first.
"When I met Voight I thought he wasn't gonna fit in 21st but I got to know him and he was the best police I had met. He will always be my Sargeant up top."
"Hank was a good leader for the team, he always was tough and got the job done. He was the best at everything and he will be missed." Antonio said.
"Loving, gentle and humble. I could say alot more about Hank like how he was there for my team always and how he was the best, best friend I could ask for. I love you Hank." Al said starting to cry.
"He helped me and it's sad to see he's gone that when we need to talk to him we can't enter his office or talk to him about personal things. He was always there and I can't wait to see him again." Kevin said.
"Well I was the last one to enter intelligence and Hank- Hank did something no one else has really done. He cared for me and made me feel welcome in the tewm. Made me feel like I was good police. I'm gonna miss him." Hailey said starting to cry.
Now it was Jay's turn.
"When I came to Hanks unit I thought he was dirty police always. But as I got to know him throughout the years he wasn't. I realized that he was trying to protect the unit and his team. And I'm thankful for that. When i started dating Erin he hated it but I didn't care. He was and is the best dad in law of all time. And just because he is gone doesn't mean he's forgotten."
Now I had to go up there, and I knew I would cry.
"Growing up I had a bad life, my parents we're barely parents. So when Hank took me in, it was one of the best things that happened to me besides being married and having my kids. He was the best person I had and I was so thankful for him and his wife. I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for Hank he showed me the way tp the life I have now. I love you so much hank." I couldn't stop crying so Jay grabbed my hand and took me back to my seat.
We gave a salute to Hank and the commander shot a gun in honor.
It reminded me of Nadia's death.
"On this day Hank Voight signs this paper and says that when his death is to come he hands his Narcotics Intelligence Unit Sargeant badge to Erin Linsday Halstead. Come up here Linsday." Commander says.
Hank gave the star to me but that didn't seem right. I was Sargeant of the unit now? Wow.
I never thought this would happen.
I went up and they put the star on my chest.
"Sargeant Erin Linsday of Narcotics Intelligence Unit. Respect her and listen wisely! Thank you Erin." Platt says.
Everyone starts to clap a little and I take my seat.
Once the ceremony is over I tell Jay to take the girls home. I decide to go up to the office that is apparently now mine. I sit in Hank's chair and it doesn't feel right. Something is off.
Why does Hank want me here? It couldn't just me because of him taking me in.
It felt weird but right.
Maybe it would be okay after all.
