All That Matters 2

THIRTY FIVE

Weeks later...

We were finally back to okay. I was back in work and everything seemed so strange. It was weird having a seperate office and everyone listening to me personally.

"Jake Robbins 53 and he had seizures turns out last night his daughter Ceila Robbins found him with a bullet to his head and leg." Jay said.

"Alright Upton and Kev you guys go check out the house. Antonio and Al go get the daughter bring her into the interoggation room so I can talk with her. Jay my office." I say motioning for Jay to come into my office.

"Yes boss?" Jay said entering the office.

"Hey if you guys want to do it go home for an hour or two." Antonio said heading down the stairs.

"Shut up." I said starting to laugh.

I closed the door and ran to Jay's side "Okay we have about 15 minutes so lets hurry it up."

I start to unbutton his shirt and kiss his lips hard. He rips my shirt off and picks me up. Then we have an interruption. The phone rings.

"Really?" I say putting my shirt back on.

"First the girls, now this." He says sitting in the chair.

I laugh and then answer the phone and its Platt.

"Hello?" I say confused. She never calls my phone.

"Hey sarge." She says starting to laugh.

"Don't call me that, you are my Sargeant,  Trudy."

"Anyway um you have someone here for you from social services wants to talk to you and your husband is he there?"

"Yeah he's here, um um just send them up." I say confused.

"Will do."

I hang up the phone and look at Jay "That was social services they have to talk to us."

I get off the top of my desk and open the door. She comes up the stairs with Platt and then Platt goes back down. "Are you Mr and Mrs Halstead?" She asks us.

"Yeah we are." Jay says letting her into the office.

"I'm here to talk to you about adopting a baby girl she's a newborn and I got a recommendation for you two by a Kim Burgess."

Jay and I look at each other and we all take seats. We never filed for adoption.

"So tell me about you child history." She says.

"Well we have 2 kids um Nadia and Remy they are 12 and almost 13 um but we never filed." I say going off subject.

"Well sometimes it doesn't work that way, I have a recommendation which of course means you get the choice but its no cost if you want to file."

"Wow." Jay said in shock.

"I had a miscarriage last year I had to deliver still born, it was really hard and so I was scared um getting pregnant again. But I don't think that I need to think about it. Jay?" I say looking at him with big eyes hoping he will say yes.

"Im all in!" Jay said.

"Great! So I'm gonna need you to sign a few papers and then she's all yours okay?"

We nod our heads and smile at each other.

We tell the girls about it and they are thrilled. So am I. I never ever thought I would habe an oppitunity like this. Jay and I were adopting, never thought that would happen in a million years.

The next day

"Here you are, she's 2 weeks old and she doesn't have a name yet we were waiting for the parents."

They hand her to me and I feel like I'm holding the girls all over again.

Eventually we leave and I tell Jay I need to go see Kim. I know she's at home today cause this was her PTO week. I knock on her door while I'm holding the baby and then she answers.

"Ahhhh!" She screams.

"Hey Kim!" I say letting her hold the baby.

"Aww she's so beautiful Lins."

I smile and she hands her back to me. We sit down outside and start to talk.

"Why me Kim?"

"What?"

"Why did you reccomend me?"

"Because I knew you would be a great mother for her. You're great at everything why not have a 3rd?"

We talk for hours and hours and then I head home.  The girls were so happy to see her. And I was glad we went through with it. Later in the night Jay and I stay up purposely till the girls fall asleep and then we have our fun.

I couldn't be more happier.
