"Oh, let me see those pearls!" Ms. Henderson squealed as she snapped picture after picture of Dustin in his adorable 'Ghost Busters' costume for halloween at school. "Who you gonna call?" she sang, laughing hysterically as she made the beats of the theme song with her mouth. Dustin was laughing and smiling hard too, showing off his homemade costume that Beth helped their mom make three nights in a row.

"Beth, how do I look?" Dustin asked, shrugging his shoulders up and down and making all sorts of faces. Beth laughed and ruffled up his head full of curls. "Amazing, Stantz. You look amazing."

He smiled, his cheeks puffing out. "Thanks, Beth!" he called out as he ran out of the door, biking his way to school.

"Where's your car again, sweetie?" Ms. Henderson asked Beth, stroking Mews' head gently while she purred under her hand.

"A friend is borrowing it on her trip to the other side of town to visit distant family. She's bringing it back after school today." Beth lied through her smile, tossing her backpack over her shoulder as a sequence of knocks came from the front door.

"Is that Billy? Oh, my goodness!" her mom sat up from her chair, rushing to open the door. She flashed a smile as Billy appeared, his upper arm leaning on the door frame with a grin on his lips. "Hello, Billy!" Ms. Henderson chirped, letting him waltz inside.

"Good morning, Ms. Henderson." Billy greeted, standing beside Beth and waiting for her to be ready to leave.

"Let's go." Beth chuckled, seeing her mother watch them with a look of adoration on her chubby face. "Okay, we're off, mom. Remember, me and Billy are going to Tina's party tonight and Dustin will be home by no later than ten. If he comes later, tell him he better be ready for a Beth lecture." she pointed, waving to her mom as her and Billy walked out of the warm house.

The fall air swirled around the two smiling teens, both of them plopping into Billy's car and basking in the warm air his vents were propelling. His younger step sister sat in the backseat with her skateboard in hand, looking out the window with a bored expression on her face.

"We have to drop Max off at school first but then we can have some time before first period." Billy informed, turning up his music and speeding out of the driveway.

It hit Beth like a truck. Max.

Dustin was gushing hard about Max, and how she could be Mad Max. Beth did see him dropping her off at the arcade the day she took Dustin.
