After taking pain killers, Beth was moved into the kitchen where everyone stood, her leg still flaring with pain, but it was tolerable, thanks to Joyce.

"The mind flayer." Dustin said, putting his thick book down onto the table that everyone circled, Steve stood beside Beth to let her lean some of her weight onto him when she needed to.

"What the hell is that?" Hopper asked, his tone unamused.

"It's a monster from an unknown dimension." Dustin said, his lisp making Beth want to smile, but she didn't, her mind focused on the problem in front of them. They had to stop these demo-dogs, as Dustin called them, somehow.

"It is so ancient that it doesn't even know its true home. Okay, it enslaves races of other dimensions by taking over their brains using its highly-developed psionic powers." Dustin looked around at everyone, all of them seeming to be listening except Hopper.

"Oh my god, none of this is real. It's a kids' game." He sighed, shaking his head.

Beth scoffed. "It's better than nothing."

"No, it's a manual. And it's not for kids. And unless you know something that we don't, this is the best metaphor-"

"Analogy." Lucas interrupted, correcting Dustin.

"Analogy? That's what you're worried about?" Dustin snapped. "Fine. An analogy, for understanding whatever the hell this is."

"Okay, so this mind flamer thing-" Nancy started, getting interrupted by Dustin immediately. "Flayer. Mind flayer." he corrected.

"What does it want?" Nancy asked.

"To conquer us, basically. It believes it's the master race."

"Like the Germans." Steve interjected.

"The Nazis?" Beth asked with a raise of her eyebrows.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah, the Nazis." Steve finished, trying to make sense of it all.

"If the Nazis were from another dimension, totally." Dustin told him. "It views other races, like us, as inferior to itself."

"It wants to spread and take over other dimensions." Mike suggested.

"We are talking about the destruction of our world as we know it." Lucas warned.

Steve put his hands on his head, briefly stepping away from the table. "That's great. That's great. That's really great. Jesus!"

"Okay, so, if this thing is like a brain that's controlling everything, then if we kill it..." Nancy said, holding the book in her hands.

"We kill everything it controls." Mike finished.
