Dustin, Mike, Max, Will and Lucas filed into Beth's room, the atmosphere cold and dark. She had her curtains shut all the way, every light and lamp shut off whilst they collected dust. Mews was curled up right beside Beth's sleeping face, several loose hairs flying into the brisk air.

They watched her with pity in their eyes, Max holding the most of it.

It was her step brother who'd broken this sleeping girl who was oblivious to her presence. Max knew that Billy was out of his normal happiness streak that he'd fallen into when he first met first met Beth when she saw him crying in the bathroom. The shower was running, but he was just sat on the bathroom floor, weakly pounding his fist onto the tile as his tears formed a puddle.

She didn't stay to watch long through the cracked door. She couldn't force herself to watch the person she hated most in pain, because even though he was a horrible person, he was still human. And he could still hurt just like everyone else.

"Dustin?" Beth croaked, seeing her little brother with all his friends crowded around her bed and staring at her like tourists in an art museum.

"Beth, hey." Dustin smiled, flashing his new teeth. "We-uh-came to deliver something to you. From-" Dustin cleared his throat, not knowing how to say it without making her angry or cry even more than she had been doing the past day.  "Just-um-take this." Dustin threw the letter at her and sped out of the room, yelling at his friends to follow, which they did, darting out of her dark room and slamming her door shut.

Beth sighed, plopping down back on her comfortable pillow, Mews looking at her, unimpressed.

She picked up what Dustin tossed at her. It was an envelope with her name written in sloppy, but also fairly pretty, handwriting.

She ripped it open, seeing that it was from Billy.

Her eyes started watering as she read it, every word causing her head to hurt more as she tried to hold in the tears that were threatening to spill out.

It read,

"Beth,

Let me just start out by saying I screwed up. I know that. I knew that the second my jacket hit the street. Your voice when you called out to me at the party broke my heart. It horrified me to know that you watched me betray you.

You're amazing, beautiful and way too good for me. I know that. You deserve so much better than a jerk like me. I regret every second of making out with Tina Fowler. It was the biggest mistake I've made and I'm so sorry. I know you don't want to hear an excuse like I was drunk or she kissed me first so I'm not gonna say that. What I will say is that I was really dumb to do what I did and I really hope you can forgive me.

I've missed you. Seeing you wearing my shirt and my jackets. Speeding down the back roads and letting you sit on the widow as we went 90 miles an hour. Your hair flying in every direction while you swayed your body and smiled like half of your body wasn't stuck out of a damn window while we were going faster than a safe speed. I miss smelling your hair that night that I stayed over at your house. I miss checking on the healing gash on your head, much to your annoyance. I miss your mom gushing and snapping pictures of us talking and smiling when she thought we weren't looking.

Most importantly, Beth, I miss you.

I didn't think I could miss anyone so much after we left my mother back in Cali. Until I met you.

Until I fell in love with you.

Elizabeth Henderson, I, Billy Hargrove, am in love with you.

And I was too scared to say it before because that would be admitting that it was really true. I could love someone. And that someone is you.

Please, just call me, Beth.

Just call me."

And so she called him.
