THE CALM AND THE STORM
Sun rays kissed Beth's cheeks as Billy laid back on the soft pillow, admiring his love. Her eyelashes rested on her cheeks, the slight sunburn she got giving her lightly tanned face a little redness to it as her freckles poked through. Her plump lips parted slightly, soft breaths escaping with every rise and fall of her chest.
The Led Zeppelin shirt that Billy let her keep covered her body, her smooth legs curled along with his own.
The necklace that Billy gave her that used to be his mother's shimmered slightly in the beams of the morning sun. The lone seashell that was tied into the middle of the rope necklace shone as the warmth from the light comforted her body visibly as she smiled in her sleep, causing Billy to smile as well.
Birds chirped and a few hushed dog barks came from across the street, but somehow, the noises calmed Billy deeply as he gazed at Beth. He could never think of anything that made him happier than these moments he got to experience every single morning. Nothing could top it, not even the ocean back in California.
Gently, Billy raised his thumb and rubbed the pad of it across Beth's warm cheek, using the other hand to brush through Beth's wavy brown locks that were slightly tangled and sprawled all across her pillow.
Her cheeks were soft, her hair twirling and swishing with each stroke of his hand.
Billy noticed a dainty blue butterfly perched on Beth's windowsill, his smile growing as he thought of how much Beth obsessed over butterflies whenever she saw one. "They're so pretty!" she would gush.
Once her blue orbs began to open, Billy prepared his every day good morning speech that he dedicated himself to saying to the baby and Beth.
"Morning, Billy." she croaked, her voice still raspy with tiredness.
He grinned, removing his hand from her cheek and putting it on her belly, rubbing in circles gently.
"Good morning, Beth." he started, a sigh and giggle coming from Beth's lips as she readied herself for what was coming. "Today will either be hard or a breeze. And you could feel bad or get sad at any time, but you'll be okay. Today's a new day. Let's embrace it together."
"You're such a dork." Beth smiled, cupping Billy's cheek and letting him lean into her hand. "But I love you for it."

Beth and Billy danced around each other between Beth's room and the bathroom, getting ready for their first dinner date since Beth had gotten pregnant. With her pregnancy came a certain exhaustion that meant all she wanted to do was eat french fries and strawberries and lay down. She didn't want to get out, go see a movie or even just walk around the mall.
