THE SERENADE
Beth grunted in pain as she was slammed against the floor by the door, her body turning in attempt to break her fall, but it just caused her to fall onto her leg.Billy, in a fit of pure rage, didn't even notice her and stared straight at Max.
Beth could feel that one of the glass pieces that they missed had torn a few of her stitches, her leg beginning to gush with crimson liquid. The tightly wrapped gauze started to turn a deep red color.
She reached down, trying to put pressure on the gash to slow the bleeding, but it was no use. With the stitches open, it was going to bleed; a lot.
"Well, well, well." Billy said, walking slowly to Lucas. "Lucas Sinclair, what a surprise. I thought I told you to stay away from him, Max."
"Billy go away." Max pleaded.
"You disobeyed me." he whispered. "And you know what happens when you disobey me." he paused as Beth stood up, attempting to step forwards but having to lean on the wall for support. "I break things." Billy said, grabbing Lucas by the collar of hid jacket and slamming him into the bookshelf.
Beth fought against her pain and limped as fast as she could to Billy, using the walls for as much support as she could get along the way. "Billy." she said, going face to face with him.
Billy's head snapped towards her, his eyes going wide and his anger boiling even hotter. "What in the hell are you doing here?" he asked, his hands still painfully curled into Lucas' collar.
"Let Lucas go." she said, resting her hand on his cheek, his tense shoulders loosening up a bit. "And I will explain. I promise."
"Beth, no!" Mike yelled, knowing that Billy couldn't be trusted at all.
"I have this." Beth said calmly to Mike, despite her agonizing pain in her leg, she held a very steady and calm tone as the blood seeped onto her leg.
The kids stayed silent, watching closely. None of them noticed Steve creeping into the house.
"Billy, I'm gonna tell you everything, but first, you're gonna have to let Lucas go. Right now." Beth tried, rubbing her thumb along his cheek, his eyes closing as he leaned into her touch, his fingers slowly releasing Lucas' shirt.
"I told them-" Billy began, Beth's eyebrows raising. "No." she told him. "I talk, you listen. Now let Lucas go."
Before Billy could fully let go of the young and scared boy, Steve ran up and smashed a plate on Billy's head. Beth gasped, backing away in shock.
"Steve, no!" Beth screamed, Lucas running to his friends for comfort while Beth limped toward the living room where the boys began throwing punch after punch at each other.
"Steve, stop it! Stop!" Beth screamed, leaning on the wall as agony rippled through her leg. She couldn't move without a flare of horrid pain shooting up to her thigh.
"Stop fighting!" Beth cried out, the boys and Max coming to her side to comfort her. Billy laughed while Steve threw punches, making stupid comments along the way.
Until Billy stopped taking the punches. He got Steve on the ground, hurling himself on top of him and throwing ruthless hits, Steve's face becoming a bloody punching bag.
"Billy!" Beth yelled, looking at the worried boys, and then at Max. Max looked up at her, her face contorted with nervousness. Beth knew what she had to do.
She grabbed Will's sedative and a needle, filling it up to the right amount for someone Billy's size and putting it behind her back. Slowly limping over to Billy, she rested her free hand on his shoulders and kneeled down to his ear.
"Billy." she whispered, his body rocking as he continuously slammed his fists down on Steve. "Billy." Beth repeated. "Remember what your mom used to sing you before bed?" She asked, smiling as tears brimmed in her eyes, guilt filling the pit in her stomach as she slowly brought the needle to Billy's neck. Just as his punches began to slow down, Beth began softy singing into his ear.
With a shaky voice and a constant stream of tears, she tried to soothe Billy.
"A twist
A tale
A rip through my sail.
And we're made to watch the walls fall down.
Cause goodbye's too strong, too strong a word
when I'm weak from everything that I'm told.
Yes, I'm weak from everything that I'm told.
And I'm weak from all the things that I know.Do you think of me when you look to the sea?
I know it's hard to grow when you're pushed your knees.
I know our time will pass, your loving will last.
Darling, we will never break."She sang, pushing the needle into his neck and letting more tears fall as she pressed the sedative into his veins. He was crying, but he stopped hitting Steve, his arms now limp at his sides as he remembered his mother singing that song to him every night before bed.
Beth let his weight lean on her as she dragged him to the couch, holding him close as he cried softly. "Beth." he mumbled, his eyes starting to close gently. "What's happening, Beth?" he whimpered, the kids watching in shock as Beth sobbed into Billy's hair. "It's okay, Billy." Beth told him.
He was unconscious, now, limp in her arms.
"Thank you." Max said, walking up to Beth and looking at her with sadness written all over her face.
"Take these." Beth sniffled, pulling Billy's car keys out of his pocket and handing them to Max. "Get out of here. Have the boys put Steve in the car. I got Billy."
Max nodded, quickly updating the boys on the new plan and running outside to start the car.
Before Dustin left, he walked to Beth and hugged her tight. "You saved Lucas, Beth. And Steve. Thank you. Take care of him. I love you."
Beth kissed Dustin's forehead, sighing gently. "I love you too, little brother."

also, the song that i used was "to the sea" by seafret (one of the best and most calming bands out there ok) and i know it's not at all made in the 80's or around that time, but i fit perfectly, so, oh whale, i used it 🐳
you should give it a listen if you wanna :)
