Dustin and Bet concocted a brilliant plan, but it was only temporary. They'd figured out how to trap Dart somewhere secure but they'd come across one problem; what were they going to do with him afterwards?

They knew they couldn't just leave him down there forever because at the rate he grew and molted, he was going to get even bigger, and fast. Leaving him in their storm cellar wasn't going to be a solid, long-lasting solution.

But, it was good enough for now.

So, they began getting to work.

Beth snagged multiple packs of bologna from the fridge while Dustin geared up. She opened the front door early so they would be able to run fast when they planted the trap.

Placing slices of he slimy meat, they slowly made a trail.

"This better work, because, I swear to god, if I have to cancel my date with Billy tomorrow to kill a deadly lizard, you're tush is a bush." Beth warned, her big hockey mask drooping over her curls.

Dustin put his padded arms up in defense. "Got it." he grinned, continuing to drop slices of lunch meat on their carpet while their poor mother uselessly hunted for their cat.

"Dustin, how are we gonna come up with a good lie to convince Mom that Mews died from a different cause? l don't think she'd like to hear that a lizard that can grow two sizes in a few days and opens it's face ate it because you were feeding it candy." Beth pointed out, their trail now coming out of the front door.

"Let's just say," he started. "that maybe she got lost in the woods and a hawk or something got to her because we couldn't find her." Dustin nodded, finishing off their trail of meat to the cellar.

"Done." Beth smiled, tossing the plastic wrappers to the side and jogging back into the house behind a nervous Dustin.

He walked down the hall, all the way to his bedroom door and stopped slowly. He looked at Beth briefly then back at the door. "All right Dart, breakfast time." he called.

Beth started slowly backing away as he reached for the door, his hands protected by their mother's oven mitts. Dustin threw the door open, running down the hall with Beth way ahead of him. "Oh my god." he repeated, switching to "Shit." while the two sped into the garden shed that stood across from their cellar.

Beth slammed the door closed, their matching blue eyes peering through the cracks in the wooden door to watch Dart as he exited the house. "Come on, I know you're hungry." Dustin whispered.

"Yes!" Beth quietly cheered as the creature came walking out of the house, happily eating their food they left out for it. Their plan was working.

Until Dart came closer to the cellar and stopped still in his tracks. "Oh no," Beth whimpered, seeing the vicious lizard sniff the ground and turn his head to the two pairs of eyes in the door.

They both slammed against the wall, hoping and praying to whatever higher power laid above them that he didn't see them in time.

Dustin's heavy, nervous breaths filled the quiet, his hands tightening around his "weapon."

He let out a battle cry, kicking the door open and running to a, now, scared looking Dart who was running away from Dustin as Beth watched in amazement and horror.

Hitting Dart with the hockey stick, he tumbled down the stairs, quickly coming up the stairs and attempting to reach the boy who just made him very angry.

Beth sprinted towards the doors, slamming them shut and collapsing onto them, letting out a tired sigh.

"Sorry." Dustin said into the doors. "You ate our cat."

"Guys, this is Dustin again." Dustin said into his walkie's headset, shoveling dirt into Mews' grave that Beth dug.

Beth stood beside him, sadly gazing at Mews.

"Does anyone copy?" he frantically asks. "This is a code red, I repeat, a code red!"

They finished up outside, switching to the kitchen sink to fish out cleaning supplies for the blood stains in Dustin's room. "I really need someone to pick up here." Dustin pleaded. "Hopper's MIA, and I've got a code red. Code red!"

Now they were scrubbing his carpet, Beth working on the small streaks while Dustin took the puddles behind the chair so his sister wouldn't have to look at what was left of her beloved cat. "All right, it's Dustin again. Seriously, I have a code red."

Another young sounding, very feminine, voice erupted from the walkie as the two Henderson's scrubbed, causing them both to perk up quickly. "Could you please shut up?" the voice snapped, filled with a girl's attitude.

"Erica? Erica. Is Lucas there? Where is he?" Dustin asked, his eyes wide and his voice frantic.

"Don't know, don't care." the child spoke.

"Is he with Mike?"

"Like I said, I don't know, and I don't care." she repeated.

Beth also became slightly annoyed, the young girl not knowing the indefinite importance of this situation.

"Please tell him it's super important. Please tell him I have a code-"

"Code red?" Erica asked.

"Code red, exactly." Dustin grinned while Erica hummed.

"I've got a code for you." she stated. "It's called code 'shut your mouth'."

Then, the line went to static.

"E-Erica?" Dustin asked, his shoulders already deflated.

"Another one bites the dust." Beth said, her tone flat and disappointed.
