CALIFORNIA, BABY
"I'm gonna teach you a little somethin' about Cali, baby." Billy grinned. As he watched the waves in front of him, his golden skin reflected the warm beams of the California sun.
A blue surfboard rested under his arm, a smile on his face. Small carvings and personalizations dotted the bottom of the board, each detail seeming to be years old.
Medium sized waves, that were 'the perfect size for shredding', lapped against their feet, cowering back into the ocean and sprinting forwards once again every few seconds with the speedy tide.
Sunlight caused the water to glisten beautifully, seagulls and small crabs happily trotting around the warm sand in bliss.
For once in months, Beth felt at ease. Being in California with Billy and his mom was something Beth never knew she needed until now, and now that she had it, her heart was filled with felicity.
"Doc gave you the okay on surfing, right?" Billy turned at Beth and furrowed his brows, eyeing Beth's white and grey board she personally picked out.
"Sure did."
"Then let's get on the water, babe!" Billy ran out to the water, stopping himself once the warm ocean waves met his knees.
Billy was adamant on teaching Beth, at least, the basics of surfing, telling her that in California, knowing how to surf was a necessity.
She listened to his endless rant on needing the perfect amount of tide in the middle of the day for the perfect waves.
Beth waded into the water, the warm laps soothing her feet as her toes sunk beneath the sand. "Where do we start?" she called out to Billy, who was laying his stomach on his board and doggy paddling around in circles.
"Here!" he pointed to the area just a few feet above him, the waves perfectly rolling over one another whilst the sun kissed their skin.
"Looks good." Beth beamed, excitement rushing through her blood. "Let's start!"
"Okay, stand on your board," Billy began, yanking himself up on his board and demonstrating how Beth's feet should be positioned. "and put one foot to the left and forwards. Stick your other foot behind that one a little. Make sure your balance is centered so you won't fall."
"Got it." Beth nodded, feeling her board gently rolling under the soft waves.
"Okay, now, lay on your stomach." Billy instructed, laying on his belly. "Make sure you're not all the way on your belly because of our bean, yeah?"
