THE DAMAGE
Mere seconds had passed, and Beth could still hear Billy screaming as he was being torn away from her. The last thing he managed to roar out was a last effort cry. "RUN!" he shrilled, Beth's chest wracking with heaves and sobs as black mascara trails and hot tears mixed and rolled down her cheeks.Hesitantly heeding Billy's advice, she tore her shoes off and ran as fast as she could into the direction of the town that was about twenty minutes away by car. But more like two hours on foot, if you were walking.
But, despite her current sensitive medical condition, Beth was sprinting. Sprinting for help, because she was too smart to give up on Billy that quick. It couldn't be what she thought it was, right?
They'd killed that thing a year ago. They were finally at peace. But there's also a chance they missed a tiny detail. Something they all skipped over in the carefully-articulated plan.
Could that be true? What did they miss?

Rocks, gravel and even small pieces of broken beer bottles dug into Beth's bare feet as she ran, the heat of the summer hight air making her forehead profusely sweat, her curls beginning to soak.
Every now and then, she would think about running back to help Billy, but she was too far now. Getting the only help she knew of was the only possible choice, and that was the only reason she kept running. She knew that Billy had a chance of living if he managed to slip away or she could get the help required in time.
Her thoughts were interrupted by the familiar roar of an engine. Headlights came zipping towards her, and Beth slowed down, swinging around and waving her arms to Billy who had made it out and away; alive.
The car stopped, Billy's distressed figure dashing out of the car and into Beth's open arms. He sobbed into her chest, her cries mixing with hers. "I was afraid you wouldn't make it." she whispered into the crook of his neck, letting his tears soak her own shoulder.
Without a word, he stepped away from the hug, his tear still falling but a blank expression took over his face that was sticky with the salty droplets.
"Billy?" Beth asked, confused as he walked over to the phone booth and began calling 911.
"Billy?" Beth repeated, getting no answer as he held the phone up to his cheek, staring off into the distance as the lady on the phone asked if there was an emergency. He never answered her. He dropped the phone, walking out of the booth with wide and concerned eyes.
He looked up at the sky, seemingly worried.
"Billy, what happened? What's wrong?" he looked like something had put him into shock. He wasn't responding to her at all and he was seemingly in a whole different world.
He stared off in front of him, yelling over and over, scaring Beth. "What do you want?" he screamed. "I don't understand!"
He was crying again, fear and confusion drowning his expression. He looked mortified, and it scared Beth.
"Billy, what do you see?" she quietly asked, repeating her questions with a yell after he didn't answer her.
Suddenly, he snapped his head around to her and walked towards her slowly.
