I open my eyes to find sunlight streaming in through my window. I slowly sit up, letting the blanket slide off me. As I reach for my phone, I recall the events of last night.
At dinner, I managed to keep a straight face most of the time, and I was able to swallow about half of the food on my plate. I told Mom I wasn't very hungry, and luckily she didn't question it. I was able to take part in the conversation, even though it still felt like everyone was shouting at me. The only issue I ran into was when I somehow reacted to Bethany's cup tipping over insanely fast, and was able to catch it mid fall. I just explained it as "good reflexes" but in truth, I felt the cup tipping seconds before it began to fall.
I look at the phone in my hands, seeing that it is already 11:00. I'm honestly not surprised - it took forever to fall asleep with my headache. That's when I realize that my headache is gone! My stomach doesn't hurt anymore, and I don't feel dizzy. Maybe the spider didn't have anything to do with it, maybe I just had a little stomach bug.
I laugh quietly to myself, maybe I'm a little too obsessed with Spider-Man. It was just a spider, after all, and I feel fine now.
I slide out of bed, grab my hairbrush, and walk over to the mirror on my wall. As I'm brushing my hair, I realize something looks off. I pause mid stroke and look at myself carefully. My eyes wander over to the arm paused in mid air.
Oh. My. Goodness.
I have muscles.
Of course, I've always had muscles, but not enough for it to be noticeable.
Even now, I don't look 'buff', but there's enough that it's somewhat noticeable when I use my arms.
When did that happen?
I swear my arms were normal last night!
You can't just get muscles overnight... can you?
I drop my brush and rush over to my laptop, opening it to quickly type - How long does it take to get noticeable arm muscles
I quickly read over the results;
Muscles are gained gradually over time, slowly becoming more noticeable as you work to strengthen them.
Yeah, that's what I thought.
Maybe I have been getting more muscular overtime, and I just didn't notice it until now?
I shut my laptop and exit the room, walking down the stairs and into the kitchen. I pop some bread into the toaster.
As I am buttering my toast, I hear Mom and Bethany enter the kitchen. I look over and smile at them, then turn back to my plate.
"So, do you want to ask her?" I hear someone say.
I chuckle, not taking my eyes off my bread, and respond with, "Ask me what?"
"W-what?" my mom responds, sounding shocked.
I turn around, and notice they are on the other side of the room, "I said what do you want to ask me?"
Mom still looks shocked, "H-how did you hear us?"
I laugh, "Um, you were talking? I'm in the same room?"
"But... I was whispering..."
My face pales a little, "R-really? Oh, ha ha.... I guess I am just really observant right now..." My mom is a really good whisperer. She can speak so quietly that sometimes, no one but the person she is speaking to acknowledges that she is talking. And to make things worse, they are on the complete opposite side of the room.
How was I able to hear them whispering?! I realize that when my mom did speak to me, it didn't sound like she was shouting. So if my headache is gone, and people are speaking normally again... how was that possible?
I quickly change the subject, "So, Bethany! Did you have something to tell me?"
Bethany smiles, "Yeah! Mom said we can go to Fun Land today! Do you want to go?"
"Sure!" I reply.
Maybe it will take my mind off of all the strange things that have been happening...
