Chapter Thirty-Nine

I squint at the test in front of me. I'm usually very good at math, but this one question is stumping me.

I look up, surprised when I catch Mr. Williams staring at me.

Actually, I shouldn't be surprised. I would be staring at a student if I had just found out they were a teenage superhero last night.

I give him a small smile before looking back at the test.

Fifteen or so minutes later, I step out of the classroom, relieved to have the test out of the way.

My neck tingles and I look to my right, smiling when I see Layla, "Hey!"

"Hi!" Layla replies, looking a bit confused. She opens her mouth to speak again -

"Attention students, here is a special announcement! A decision has been made to... order pizza! Pizza in the cafeteria!" a voice speaks over the intercom.

A chorus of cheers echoes throughout the hallway. I flinch slightly at all the noise, but recover quickly.

I grin, "We better hurry! Don't want that pizza getting cold!"

I sit at a table in the cafeteria with a satisfied sigh. I eagerly reach for my pizza and take a large bite, "Mmmmm."

Layla sits down across from me, looking just as happy about the pizza scenario. She then looks at me, a confused look now on her face, "Crystal?"

"Yeah?"

"Um... do you know why Mr. Williams was staring at you during the test?" she looks nervous, "Do you think... do you think he is suspicious? He may think you are Spider-Girl."

It's my turn to look nervous, "Yeah... about that..."

Now Layla is looking at me with a 'What now?' expression.

I chuckle nervously, "Um... I may have told Mr. Williams that I am Spider-Girl?"

Layla's eyes widen. "You did what?!" she hisses.

"I know it sounds bad, but I had to! I bumped into him last night after the fight, and he wouldn't let me leave without telling him why my face was beaten and bruised!" I quickly explain.

Layla sighs, "Oh, Crystal..."

"I made him promise not to tell anyone... And I do trust him."

"Alright... just try to not go around telling everyone, okay?" Layla says with a smile.

"Of course!" I agree.
