So far, I have been able to survive this day of school - barely. I am seriously exhausted. I really need to work on getting to bed at a decent time. Luckily, I have only two more classes today - science and gym.
I'm sitting at my desk, near the back of the classroom, barely keeping my eyes open. I try and fail to focus on what Ms. Stevens is saying.
As science class is nearing its end, I begin to doze off.
I'm abruptly awakened by Layla shaking me roughly. "Huh? Wha - what's going on?" I ask groggily.
"Crystal, c'mon! We need to get to P.E." Layla says, reaching down to grab her backpack and mine.
I stand up as fast as I can after being awoken from a nap, and grab the backpack that Layla is holding out for me. "Thanks," I mumble, following Layla to the front of the room.
"I hope you had a nice nap, Miss Carmell," Ms. Stevens speaks as we walk past her desk.
I stop and turn to face her, my cheeks flushing slightly, "Uh, yeah..."
She sighs and hands a slip of paper to me, and then proceeds to hand an identical one to Layla.
"Uh... thanks?" I say, not sure what to do with it.
Ms. Stevens gives us a tight smile and says, "Don't forget to have your parents sign it tonight, and bring it with you tomorrow."
Layla nods and smiles, then drags me out of the classroom.
We walk side by side down the hall, making our way towards the gym. I look down at the paper and begin to read. Permission Slip
"Why do we need permission slips?" I ask Layla.
"For the field trip! The science class is taking a field trip tomorrow!"
"Oh, cool... Where are we going?"
"To an insect and arachnid museum."
"So... basically bugs and spiders?"
"Exactly."
