"And that wraps up the rules of the project! Any questions?"
I jolt upright in my chair, trying to act like I was not just napping. I look around the classroom, seeing if anyone is raising their hand.
I sigh and face plant onto my desk. I have no idea what this project is about. Hopefully Layla can inform me later.
"Perfect! You may find a partner and begin discussing your projects for the last few minutes of class."
I search the room for Layla, and I am startled when I find her standing right behind me.
"So, want to be partners?" she asks cheerily.
I nod eagerly.
"Great!" she grabs a chair and sits down next to me, "So, any ideas?"
I grin sheepishly, "um..."
Layla sighs, "You weren't paying attention, were you?"
My sheepish grin widens, "I... fell asleep."
Layla looks at me, "You really need to work on getting to bed on time!"
I manage a small chuckle, "I know... I just lost track of time working on something last night."
Layla looks at me curiously, "Oh? What were you doing?"
I quickly try to think of something at least semi-believable, "Uh... I was... reading a really good book!"
Layla looks at me suspiciously, "I thought you said you were working on something..."
I quickly reply, "I was!! I meant to say... I was reading a book... and working on... a... drawing? Yeah! Drawing! A drawing of a scene... in the... book!"
Layla glares suspiciously at me.
I smile innocently back.
Layla shrugs her shoulders, "Alright. Cool. I'd like to see the drawing when it's finished."
I plaster a smile on my face, "Totally!"
She smiles back, "Anyways... let me get you up to date on the project..."
