Something feels like it's weighing me down...

"Why is there so many people standing at the door. Where's Marie?" Kenny questioned once he came walking into the kitchen.

"She's in the back."

"Tell her to get to the front desk and get those people seated at tables." He demanded putting on his apron.

"And why doesn't table 18 and 32 have any waiters? Get to them and help them!" He scolded motioning his hands towards the door behind him.

"Yes boss." Two of his employees nodded as they grabbed their notepads and rushed out.

"I attend a 3 hour meeting and this is what I come back to." He rhetorically asked shaking his head. "Let me get a taste of that first."

Toni walked up to her parents apartment door and took a deep breathe before she knocked. She turned around rocking herself back and forth whilst she began to look around the hallways.

"Ava stop running!" A woman shouted from the stairway as a little girl came running down them.

"Ava." The woman scolded once she reached the little girl. "I wasn't even running mommy..." The girl rolled her eyes causing Toni to giggle lightly just then her parents door opened.

She faced the door and there was her mother.

"What brings you by? Did you and Kenny decide to get a divorce?" Tasha furrowed her brows.

Toni rolled her eyes, "no." Toni said with an attitude.

The sight of her mother annoyed her.

"Come in." Tasha said stepping to the side.

Toni hesitantly walked in.

"We don't bite. Don't act so shy, you grew up in this place. This was your home." Tasha said.

Toni scoffed, "my home? You reminded me every single day of my miserable life that I didn't own shit in this place and that I never would become anything." Toni said.

Tasha sucked her teeth before she walked ahead of Toni into their kitchen.

"Say what you need to say." Tasha spat.

Toni swallowed her saliva and looked around. Nothing was the same, their furniture was more modern and the kitchen was all white marble. Toni faced her mother and placed her bag down on the island before she sat down on one of the barstools.

"Where's your husband?" Toni asked.

"At work." Tasha said pouring herself some wine, "wine?" She asked Toni.

"No thank you." Toni shook her head.

Tasha waved her off taking a sip from her wine.

"I'm pregnant." Toni blurted out immediately having Tasha spit out the wine she was ready to swallow.

Toni watched as her mother sat the wine glass down on the island before she chuckled lightly and than looked at Toni.
