Chapter 24: Resuming

"Seems like we'll be having rain the whole month." Shizuka stood by the window drinking from her coffee cup.

Chad nodded in agreement. He had been the first to arrive at her house and had joined her for breakfast.

Yesterday's gloomy atmosphere hadn't faded through the night. He could see his friend had dark marks under her eyes. Riruka joined them at the table, she looked just as tired.

"Good morning," she muttered. "Sorry for the trouble."

"You're no trouble at all dear. Do you want pancakes or eggs?"

"Pancakes please."

As Shizuka prepared the food, Riruka sat down with him.

"I'm glad Inoue healed your wound. Looks as if it hadn't been there in the first place."

Chad smiled. "That's Inoue for you. Listen, I'm sorry you're stuck in this situation. You saved my life and I am indebted to you. So anything I can do just name it."

"Thanks Sado, but this is not your fault. I made my choice when I saw how Kugo restored to violence with you guys. We were supposed to cause chaos, not blood. I don't regret turning against them. I simply regret that they won't forgive me. Leaving one's family isn't easy."

He understood. Chad remembered how hard it was to leave Karakura when his parents died, or leaving Mexico after his grandfather died too. "Getting used to a place and to the people, only to leave, it's the worst feeling. Remember we're all here for you."

"Chad's right. Don't hesitate to talk to me, or to him, or any of us. We'll all be your family now." Shizuka told her as she put the plate of pancakes in front of her.

That made her smile. "Thank you, I really appreciate it."

After breakfast Ulquiorra, Orihime and Uryu arrived. Everyone was still shaken up by the events of the fight, at least now they were a little rested.

"Hey, guys! Ok, I'll be quick since I know some of you have work.

I talked to Asami yesterday and according to the head Captain, it's likely that Aizen and his group will be attacking the Soul Society next. There are plenty of places in which they could strike. Including Squad 13, the nobles houses or Central 46. Given that Anna didn't destroy Karakura, most people are theorizing Aizen has found a replacement key. If that it's true he'll go into the Soul Realm and battle with the Soul King.

It's likely we won't be called in to intervene in this battle."

There was a somber silence in the room. Eventually, Ishida was the first to speak.

"That means, it's over? We're not getting involved?"

"It's all up to you. Personally, I would advise you to let them fuck off. After what they did yesterday, and the things they kept from Kurosaki, It would be understandable if you chose to disassociate for good."

"I'm going to say no. It's odd for a Quincy to work with shinigami either way."

Shizuka nodded. "What about you guys? The accord didn't say you were forced to work for them, plus that's null now anyways."
