Chapter 46: Listen to your heart, Emi!

3rd person's pov

"What do you think they're talking about?" Anna asked, peering over the counter. The host club members all rushed to the beach to watch how Emi and Kaoru's date would go, so to keep from being seen they hid behind the counter of an ice cream shed. "I don't know, but it looks intense between the two right now." Yori said, "I have a feeling that it's really important." Anna muttered, "Well, I know just exactly he said." Hikaru spoke up, he was still looking out at Emi and Kaoru. The two were currently staring at each other, Emi blushed upon hearing what Kaoru had just confessed. Kaoru was intensely staring at the ground, fearing that he would immediately be rejected.

"What did he say?" Tamaki looked over to Hikaru, who was currently staring at his brother.

"He just confessed his feelings for her. We had a long talk the other day and I just knew he was going to confess to her at some point during the date." Hikaru explained, making everyone shout. Even Mori-senpai and Tamaki-senpai were shocked to hear this. Honey-senpai on the other hand, was not in the slightest bit happy about this. Even though Emi had broken up with him and it had been a few weeks since the break up, he still had major feelings for Emi.

"What?!!" Yori shouted, he was also not a happy camper about hearing that Kaoru had confessed before he could. "Since when did Kaoru like Emi?" Anna asked, "Since we first got to know her in club. Kaoru was captivated by Emi." Hikaru explained.

"AHHHHHHHHHH! This can't be happening!! My baby girl will be corrupted by a devil child!!" Tamaki flipped out, which made Yori and Haruhi jump slightly out of surprise. They had become startled by Tamaki's outburst, which made them nearly jump out of their skin. "I gotta stop this!! My daughter will not be corrupted by one of you Hitachiin twins!! Daddy doesn't allow this!" Tamaki stepped towards the counter, but was immediately grabbed. "Tamaki-senpai, you can't do that!" Anna shouted, "It's too late for you to change anything Tamaki-senpai! Just leave them alone!" Haruhi pulled on Tamaki's arm, this only made Tamaki argue even more. "Will you stop trying.. To.. Ruin... A.. Special.. Moment?!" Haruhi whacked Tamaki on the back of the head with her hand, causing him to freeze and fall over face first. "Face it Tamaki, it was going to happen sooner or later. I knew this would be bound to happen." Kyoya said rather calmly, pushing up his glasses as he looked over at Tamaki. Tamaki laid on the floor, completely in shock as he froze. Anna poked Tamaki's side, but he didn't budge causing Haruhi to sigh.

Kaoru scratched the back of his neck, not sure if he should say anything to Emi. He took a small breathe before speaking to Emi, who was still reeling from the shock. "Emi, you don't have to give me an answer right away.. You can have time to think about it.. I know you just got out of a relationship a few weeks ago and I know it's been hard on you, I didn't want to push this onto you like this but.. Something in my heart told me if I didn't say anything now, then I might lose my chance at telling you how I feel." Kaoru looked up at Emi, who was now looking at the ground. A tear slipped down her face, which shocked Kaoru. "I didn't tell you this to make you cry or anything, I just wanted to be sincere about how I felt about you. I'm sorry to make you cry like this--" Kaoru stammered, "No, I'm not crying because of you, Kaoru.. I'm just happy that someone genuinely likes me for who I am. I want to give it a try, but first I'll need time to think about it and get over Honey-senpai. I'm still hurting because of what he did, but at the same time I don't know what I was thinking when I decided to go out with Honey-senpai instead of someone who would really love me." Emi shook her head, giving Kaoru a smile that he would never forget.

"Wow, Emi..." Kaoru made eye contact with Emi, who wiped her tears away.

"Did Honey-senpai make you feel that way? That he didn't genuinely like you for you?" Kaoru asked, "Yeah, he made me doubt his motives and why we were in a relationship in the first place. I don't even know why I liked him in the first place.." Emi looked out at the ocean, then back to Kaoru. "Emi, I'm sorry that he made you feel that way. You shouldn't have to feel like that with someone you like." Kaoru apologized, "It's okay... I'm okay.. Anyways, enough with the sad stuff. Why don't we enjoy our picnic date?" Emi gave him a large smile, making Kaoru blush slightly. "Yeah, sure." He chuckled slightly, watching as Emi turned around and walked over to their shaded area. "I can't believe she didn't reject me... But it has me worried that she felt that way with Honey-senpai.. Maybe the relationship between those two wasn't as great as we all originally thought it would be. I can't believe that Emi is taking this so well." Kaoru thought to himself, as he saw Emi sit down next to the basket. "Come on, Kaoru!! I wanna eat this before it gets all spoiled from being out in the heat all day!!" Emi waved him over, "I'm coming!" Kaoru smiled, walking over to Emi and the picnic basket.

"Those two look so cute together... Hikaru, how did you figure out that Kaoru liked Emi?" Anna asked, shifting her eyes to him. "Well, I could see it in the way he acted around Emi when the two were together. I started fitting the puzzle pieces together when we were in Karuizawa. Which is why I confronted him." Hikaru looked back at his twin and smiled, seeing that Kaoru and Emi were having a great time together.

"She looks so happy being with Kaoru." Yori said, simply amazed at the sight in front of him.

"He's right.. She does look so happy. Much happier than when she was with me.. Was Emi truly happy when we were together?" Honey-senpai asked himself, he had this look of complete sadness in his eyes as he watched Emi. This didn't go unnoticed by Mori and Kyoya, who felt bad for him.

"Wait, no way!! Yori really did that?!" Kaoru cracked up, "Yeah, he did. It was so obvious that it was his first time in the kitchen. Dad was so angry when he blew up the cake and the oven." Emi smiled, explaining the story to Kaoru who only kept laughing. Just as the wind blew, Emi stopped laughing which only left Kaoru to laugh. She stared at him with wide eyes, watching him as he laughed. Then a soft smile made its way onto her lips, her eyes softened as Kaoru finally calmed down. "I never noticed just how cute Kaoru can really be when he's away from Hikaru.. Or how sweet he really is. His laugh is so sincere.. He's so cute." Emi thought, "Wow, that really made my day, Emi. You know, I was so nervous about telling you my feelings because I thought you wouldn't understand or that you would straight up reject me." Kaoru suddenly became serious, looking down at the sandwich he held in his hand. "Well, there's no need to be nervous anymore Kaoru. Because I know how you feel now." She smiled at him, Kaoru looked up in surprise before giving Emi a smile back.

"Yeah, I guess I don't, do I?"
