Getting ready for the ball tonight i went with my mother, millie and few other females to the nail spa in the village to have a mani-pedi session. It was nice to get to see my mom relax and just be a normal woman for once and not a prim and proper queen.
She laughed at the others jokes and even made some of her own, i couldn't help watch her in pure fascination. Where has this mom been since i was sixteen, ive missed her. I didn't realize i had started crying until the room went silent and everyone was staring at me. The poor girl doing my nails immediately started shaking and profusely apologizing that she didn't mean to hurt me. coming to my senses i wiped at my tears " oh no im not hurt its okay its just im nervous about tonight, dont want my mate to think me as unfit"
' NICE COVER LIAR' ignoring Sadie and focusing back on the girl in front of me i decided to make conversation with her " so have you a mate?" i couldn't see her mark with the coat she was wearing and didn't recognize any scent on her.
" Me oh no i haven't found them yet, i would love to travel to find him or her but i haven't gotten a chance to travel since we have been in influx of clients lately". " well best luck in finding them" she was finished with my nails at this point, i had gotten a natural look with the powder pink undertone and white tips with diamond studs on each finger.
Admiring her work" thank you so much, you have done this princess proud" she bowed her head and blushed " thank you princess, your compliment is much appreciated, Happy Birthday Princess" i smiled appreciatively.
After another few hours of pampering from the milk baths to the cucumber wraps i felt like a new me. my skin had a glow to it now Sadie even purred appreciatively we felt like a million bucks. 'OH WE GOING TO BE GETTING EYE RAPED AND LEG HUMPED TONIGHT' mischievous grin on her wolf face had me laughing out loud startling the few others with me.
" Sarah you having inside jokes with your wolf at our expense" my mom smiling at me asked. " yes mama i am" She says we will be the bell of the ball " the others laughed to and smiled sweetly at me. mom walked over and hugged me tight " you are always the bell of the ball but tonight you'll be the queen" she winked as she took the arm of her friend Mara who was the twins mother and continued our walk to the pack house.
Millie hip bumped me and said "i know Sadie and she didn't say anything that polite" laughing i nodded my response relaying the message from Sadie following her arm in arm.
Sitting at my vanity with Mara pulling and tugging at my hair to curl and slick back, she re curled it to the side and used a family heirloom of a wolf with diamond incremented to pin it back. Millie stepped in to do my makeup deciding on a winged eyeliner and silver and purple eye shadow, mascara and slight pink and silver blush.
She painted my lips a nude and plum shade " Viola our masterpiece is complete" kissing her fingers and blowing them into the sky i laughed at her and turned to the mirror. i didn't recognize the girl staring back at me, she was no longer a girl but a women.
" oh my" i turned to see my mother in the doorway with her silver gown already on with her hair and makeup perfect as usual. smiling at Mara and Millie " ladies may i have the next 20 min of my little girl to myself before she is a woman.
" Of course my lady" the ladies bowed and exited the room each giving me a thumbs up on the way down " See you there hot stuff" Millie kissed her to fingers and blowed them to me and i back to her as she closed my door. my mom crossed the room in 2 steps and touched my shoulder smiling.
" Oh Sarah you have grown so fast, i remember it like yesterday teaching you to talk walk and you where trouble from the first word" laughing she continued " you have always been destined for greatness, the fiestyness in you reminds me of me once. so much your fathers daughter with his confidence and the way you can capture a room" she was looking out the window now with a far off look to her.
"Sarah you are the last piece of my heart left, i know i don't always tell you how much i love you and show you this side of myself. its difficult to be yourself when you are always being watched and credited for how you are. Sometimes i had wished i could hide you away so you could do whatever you wanted with your life. But being who we are you couldn't be hidden and i didn't have the strength to not be apart of your life."
Looking at the tears glistening in her eyes i was confused at her confession wondering what in the world she was pouring her heart out and why she had said she wanted to hide me away. " momma, what do you mean, you wanted to hide me away?" "enough about me, this is about you, your night to shine. your are absolutely radiant and i couldn't be more proud to be your mother lightly kissing my nose she walked to the bathroom door where my dress was hanging. handing it over " put this on my sweet pup its time for your ball" taking the dress from her still confused by all of her words i slipped off my robe and into the beautiful gown.
Having her lace up the back we stood in silence, i stared at myself and occasionally drifted to her, she wouldn't meet my eyes. Dread started to well up in turning my stomach in knots. i had this feeling that this was not what i was expecting the party to be.
After finishing the lacing up mom had left telling me dad would be here soon to escort me to the ballroom. standing outside on the balcony i stared up at the moon silently asking her to protect me and keep me from embarrassing my parents tonight. the stars twinkling in the sky had me smiling thinking she had heard my prayer.
" Troublemaker," turning to my father his smile was huge and eyes bright " You have grown into the perfect she wolf, there are no males worthy of my little girl" laughing at his formalness i waved him off as i smiled. " i guess i cant hide you away anymore," he placed his hands on my shoulders " are you ready"? huffing out a huge breath i nodded my head " ready to show them a queen daddy" thats my little trouble maker, give'm hell" still smiling i wrapped my had into the crook of his elbow as we began our travel down to the ballroom.
"Presenting Alpha King Samuel Elligford and daughter Princess Sarah Elligford" the footman announced as the other two men opened the ballroom doors. Smiles and music met me as we entered, dad dropped my arm shortly after walking and motioned for me to have fun he had a few people to greet " stay out of trouble" he teased walking away to greet some other suited men.
The hall was beautiful, the whites of flowers and lanterns to the purple lighting, the look was elegance but still a mountain vibe. looking around i didn't notice the hand coming to hide my face, " you silly girl wheres your mask?" my breath caught in my throat not recognizing the voice my entire body going rigid from fear.
A giggling from behind me had me letting my breath out and spinning around to my sister and mother. Sophia was holding a silver mask with jewels all around and her pink dress swayed as she moved to hand it over. " mom you literally scared the fu" clamping her hand over my mouth she growled low.
" i mean you scared the fun out of me mother" a curt nod in reply she made a turn around with her fingers. doing as she asked i spun my back to her again as she placed the mask over my face. " i wasn't aware this was a masquerade ball mom" a small laugh escaped her lips " yes well it was a surprise my dear" consider me baffled mommy dearest" i snidely replied.
" go enjoy your ball my dear". she left me to myself pulling my sister along.
WELL LETS START THE MINGLING SISTER, THESE ALPHAS NEED US' smiling and inwardly nodding i made my way toward the dance floor searching for my first victim of the night.
