You had been eating slowly while discussing the matter that had made you all gather up tonight. The two brothers seemed rather curious since you showed no preference nor did you express any desire to share your life with anyone other than your daughters. Which should have been expected, given that your very first relationship was with Levi and despite the joy your daughters brought you, the fact that you met Levi... was beyond disgusting.
- I believe you should stay here for a few days... I do not expect you to make a decision right away, these matters aren't easy in any way. Lady Flora said and you blinked, you looked over to your daughters... going back would take some time and the night was cold, you could stand it but the girls were a whole different story. However, staying here for a few days wasn't exactly something that made you relax, here Levi had a few targets that weren't connected to him and if he had discovered the reason you came here... you could only imagine the chaos that would follow.
- Three days, not a day more. You said and they all blinked shocked.
- Just three?
- Staying away from Levi is one thing, however staying away from my allies is another, I am captain of a squad... I have responsibilities and duties. You said and lord Kain nodded.
- I understand, then how about you spend two days here every two weeks. I think I can strike a deal with Erwin. He said and that made you wonder, two days every two weeks?
- I believe two days every four weeks is safer, besides the man I previously was with isn't someone to mess with. You said and lady Flora nodded.
- Indeed.
- But (Name)... for how long will this last? Drake asked, you looked at him empitly. As your former bully he made you feel less connected to him... Adam might had been nicer but you weren't sure how far this "nice" went.
- I believe within a month I'll be able to make a decision, if not less. You said and they seemed confused.
- You can't possibly fall in love within a month. Drake said.
- Maybe not but I can at least decide who I prefer as a husband and dote on him, perhaps love will blossom over the years... I cannot guarantee anything. You said and lord Kain smiled.
- Practical like your mother.
- At least I don't try to step on others or make them feel horrible just to make myself look better. You said spitefully, lady Flora looked down and sighed.
- She wasn't always that way. She said and you looked at her.
- She's been like that for as long as I can remember. You replied but she shook her head, she turned to her husband and he nodded before he turned to you.
- Your mother was once more accepting, she always was a bit arrogant but that was because your grandfather doted on her. Out of all seven siblings she resembled him a lot. He said and you frowned. You knew your mother had six siblings but she didn't kept any contact with them, whenever there was a family gathering she burnt the invitation and always said that you weren't going to be as pathetic and meaningless as her siblings.
- I know about her family but she has made clear she hates them.
- Well, she always acted like she was better than them... and she indeed was. She was a skilled fighter, did her daily chores well... not to mention she could succeed in everything, from cooking to making lavish dresses and jewelry... she was a woman who seemed capable of doing everything. He said and you realized that was the reason you could eat well at times, had clean and new clothes and were well educated.
- I see.
- She and I were friends once. Well, at least before she went to the army. Lady Flora said and you sighed, you had a feeling the army was the reason everything changed.
- She lost control of her arrogance, didn't she?
- No, not right away. She originally went because her mother didn't want to loose her favourite son. But that only made Bertha more arrogant as she claimed her brothers were useless if they couldn't survive on the field, your grandfather agreed with her and said he was extremely dissapointed in all four of his sons.
- How do you know all that? You asked and lord Kain sighed.
- They weren't exactly queit about it.
- Uh huh. You said but upon hearing gentle snors you turned and saw your daughters sleeping on the table, Bertha was holding her spoon while Kuchel was almost ready to fall off her chair. You managed to take both of them without waking them up and put them to the bedroom you'd also be staying, then you went to the living room where you sat, eager to learn more about your egotistical and arrogant mother.
- Bertha's mother was furious at them both. She didn't like the fact that her daughter looked down at her own family... but your grandfather made her understand that unless your uncles could prove they were worthy of being members of his family, they'd leave the house and would cut all ties with them.
- Sounds like an awfully proud man. You said and lord Kain rolled his eyes.
- He always thought he was better because he had connections to the landlord of that time, it wasn't until the title came to my family that he kept his attitude at bay.
- So my grandfather turned my mother into a clone of his personality. Sounds familiar. You said and Adam gulped, he recalled how cold and scary your mother could become... same went for Drake.
- So after Bertha entered the army she received a few medals for her bravery and was almost called the bravest and strongest soldier of her time... until that accident happened, when she realized she'd spent the rest of her life in a wheelchair she hated the world for keeping her from the glory she was slowly reaching. Your grandfather though sad she failed, was proud of her for showing her potential and convinced her that the next generation would achieve what she couldn't... and that's why she also married faster than any of her siblings.
- So far so good but... why she hates her family so much?
- Her brothers teased her and tried to outshine her but failed, the were frustrated that your grandfather still prefered Bertha over them and well... one day things went out of control.
- What do you mean?
- They made fun of her for being unable to walk, threw her of her wheel chair and began beating her, they never would have guessed your mother carried a knife with her at all times.... she nearly skined one of them alive and vowed to make them pay for that. Your grandfather kicked them out of the house the same day.... had it not been for your grandmother... the boys would have died, when they decided that what they did was wrong though... Bertha had already lost her husband and had been training you to become her successor. Lord Kain said and you leaned against the couch, at least now you knew much more regarding your mother, she went through a lot and could have lived a better life if your grandfather hadn't been so proud and arrogant.
- That doesn't make me forgive her... but it makes me understand her a bit. You said before standing up, you told everyone goodnight and then went to bed, feeling slightly better and determined not to make the mistakes both your mother and grandfather did before you.
