Chapter 4: Koda and Hagakure

(Y/n) sat under a tree, engrossed in her notebook. So far she had two people written down in her notebook. Shoji's page was filled to the brim, and she doodled a few sketches of him. Iida had come by at lunch, not too long after Denki, and they discussed his quirk after Recovery Girl had agreed to take the rest of the patients for the lunch period.

She stuck her tongue out as she finished two sketches of Denki, his derpy mode, and his nomal mode. She thought for a bit, then jotted down a couple of things she noticed.

"May need a shock... to jumpstart... brain..."

She dropped her hand to her side and jumped as something snuffled to inspect it. She turned her gaze to see a rabbit had joined her under the tree.

"Hello there," she stroked the rabbit's soft fur. "Where did you come from?"

Footsteps approached, and she looked up.

A shy looking boy came up to her, and pointed down at the rabbit.

"Oh, is this yours?"

He nodded.

"It's an adorable rabbit." she smiled. He nodded in agreement.

"I'm (Y/n) by the way. I'm the new transfer student. I'm Recovery Girl's new assistant!"

He shook her hand politely and introduced himself in a soft voice.

"I'm Koda."

"Do you like animals? Does it have to do with your quirk?" (Y/n)'s eyes lit up. "Wait let me guess!"

She pondered the thought for a couple of minutes.

"Animal... shape-shifting? No, animal... mutation? No, that's not it either... oh I've got it!"

She looked up at him.

"Can you call upon animals?"

He smiled and nodded.

"Cool, so if you wanted to call over that squirrel over there..."

(Y/n) jerked her head in the animal's direction.

"It would come over immediately?"

Koda nodded and demonstrated.

"Fascinating!" (Y/n) exclaimed. He demonstrated a couple more times, and (Y/n) scribbled furiously in her notebook. She picked up the little rabbit- which she had made a flower crown for- and handed it to him.

"It was nice meeting you! Maybe I'll see you again!" she grinned. Koda blushed and nodded, backing away quickly.

(Y/n)'s stomach growled, and she glanced back at the school.

"I think I saw some vending machines over there..."

She closed her book with a snap, and made her way over, discarding a half-finished crown of woven flowers under the tree.

Putting change in the machine, she got her favorite drink and plopped down on the bench.

Unfortunately, due to another's quirk, she accidentally sat on someone.

"Ah!" she exclaimed, leaping up. She finally noticed a pile of floating school clothes.

"I'm so sorry!" (Y/n) rambled on. "I didn't realize you were there!"

"It's okay, that happens a lot," the girl assured her. "Hey, I don't think we've met before. I'm Toru Hagakure!"

(Y/n) fumbled around in what seemed like open air before finally finding Hagakure's hand to shake.

"(Y/n). I'm really sorry, I am fascinated by your quirk! How can you see? Because I assume the light passes through your eyes to make them invisible too, which means they don't reflect off your cornea..."

Toru seemed to smile. (Y/n) sat down next to her.

"Well, I have more of a light manipulation quirk, I was just born invisible. I use the light to help me see, yet I stay invisible most of the time. I've thought of it as mostly a lame quirk, but I guess it could be useful for stealth missions! I could sneak up on people, and when they're not looking... hi-yah!"

Her uniform moved, seemingly by itself as Toru made a chopping motion with her invisible hand.

(Y/n) laughed.

"Hey, what class are you in?"

"Huh?" (Y/n) asked, slightly perplexed. "Oh, I'm not in any class, I'm Recovery Girl's new assistant! I'm training to be a medical hero, just like my grandma!"

"Oh, so you're the girl everyone's been talking about! The whole school has been buzzing with news today," Toru sighed. "It must be nice to have everyone fawning over you."

"I wasn't fawned over. Although, there were a few people I saw Recovery Girl shoo out the door... they seemed to be looking for... me?"

(Y/n) buried her face in her hands in embarrassment as she realized so many people wanted to catch a glimpse at her.

"That's why everyone was giving me weird looks in the hall... well now I know that it wasn't something on my face. Thanks Toru. It was nice to meet you!"

"I'll see you around some time!" she called as (Y/n) made her way back to her dorm room.
