"Hey! Pay attention audience! Swarm mass media! This year's highschool rodeo of adolescence you all love, the UA Sports Festival is about to begin!"

(Y/n) winced as the speakers screeched, battling Present Mic's booming voice as it radiated throughout the stadium.

She cupped her dainty hands around her mouth and screamed out a cry of excitement along with the crowd.

"Wooo! Yeah!"

Today was the day of the Sports Festival, when every class in UA would battle each other to see who was the strongest in the school.

"Everybody, are you ready? It's time for the first year students to enter the first-year stage!"

(Y/n) cheered in delight again, holding a hand up to block the sun's bright rays from her eyes.

"The UA Sports Festival! The huge battle where fledgling heroes sharpen their swords once a year! Anyway, these are the guys, right? The miraculous new stars who overcame enemy attacks with their hearts of steel!"

(Y/n) grinned, as she knew who Present Mic was talking about.

"Hero Course, Class 1-A!"

(Y/n) watched eagerly to see if she could spot them from her spot along the side of the field. Raising her arms above her head, she waved wildly to get their attention. Most of them noticed the energetic girl and waved back.

"They haven't been getting much airtime, but this class is also full of talent! Hero Course, Class 1-B! Next up, general studies classes, C, D, and E! Support course, classes F, G, and H are here too! And business course, classes I, J, and K! All of UA's first years are here now!"

A whip cracked, making (Y/n) jerk her head around to see who made the noise. On an elevated stage stood Midnight, the R-rated pro hero.

"Quiet everyone! Representing the students is Katsuki Bakugo from Class 1-A!"

(Y/n) felt something sink inside of her. This wasn't going to end well...

The crowd quieted down to hushed whispers, wanting to hear what the ash blond would say. Perhaps something uplifting? Maybe something to compel them all to do their best?

Ha, yeah right.

"I pledge... to be number one."

(Y/n) facepalmed as he stalked off the stage. The crowd booed at his terrible speech, and the rest of Class 1-A didn't look too happy either.

"Now let's get started right away. The first game is what you'd call a qualifier," Midnight explained. "Every year, many drink their tears here. Now here is the fateful first game!"

Midnight's whip cracked yet again, and everyone turned their gaze to a board behind her.

"This years challenge is... an obstacle race! All classes will compete at the same time, and you will race around the circumference of this stadium. It's around four kilometers."

"And..." she purred, licking her lips in anticipation. "As long as you stay on the course, it doesn't matter what you do."

(Y/n) sighed tiredly and pinched the bridge of her nose.

"Better get the stretchers ready..."

The classes gathered tightly near the entrance of a large gate. A traffic light was placed above to signal the countdown. It lit up a neon red.

"Ready..."

The light switched to yellow.

"Set..."

With the blast of an airhorn, the light flipped to green.

"Start!"

(Y/n) gasped as ice exploded from the gate. (Y/n) watched on the screen as Todoroki breezed past, freezing plenty of other competitors at the gate.

"We're gonna need some hairdryers..." she murmured as well.

The screech of metal snapped her out of her daze as she watched the next obstacle.

The robots from the entrance exams!

(Y/n) bit her lip anxiously as the group charged straight for the zero point robots.

"Oh dear," she muttered. Todoroki froze those ones as well, but something was off. (Y/n) could see it.

"We can get through now!" she heard another student exclaim, pointing underneath the robots.

With a creak and a groan, a zero-pointer crashed to the ground, scattering ice and debris everywhere on the track.

Everyone made it to the endless drop and went over it pretty quickly, then it was onto the minefield.

An explosion of pink glitter caught everyone's attention. (Y/n) watched in awe as Midoriya sailed through the air, riding on a piece of scrap metal.

As his ark came to the peak, a look of fear crossed his face.

Oh no... he didn't calculate the landing!" (Y/n) gripped her hair, nearly ripping it out from the stress.

Todoroki and Bakugo were ahead, trying to knock each other away. Midoriya landed on both of them, foot planted on each of their backs and slammed the scrap metal down on a landmine in front of them.

It sent them all soaring, but Midoriya flew forward into a roll. Barely pausing, he got up and charged forward. He was almost to the gate!

With a last burst of speed, he made it through the gate.

The crowd erupted in cheers, (Y/n) the loudest.

"Woo! You did it Izu-chan!"

He put his hands on his knees as he doubled over wheezing. (Y/n) raced over to check up on him.

"That was awesome Izu! You did great!" she congratulated the boy. He gave her a weak smile.

"Thanks (Y/n)..."

She pulled him into a tight hug. He turned red and his legs went weak.

"Izu, are you okay?" (Y/n) asked, propping him up. He jumped back up and dusted himself off.

"Y-yeah, yeah, I'm fine!" he grinned, waving his hand dismissively. (Y/n) furrowed her brow, but accepted his answer.

"The first game of the first year stage is finally over!" Midnight's voice rang clearly throughout the stadium. "Now let's take a look at the results!"

Scores flickered on the screen one by one, showing every ranking from one to 42. Midoriya was first, then Bakugo, then Todoroki and so forth.

"Now then," Midnight continued. "Here is the second game. I already know what it is, but what could it be? What could it be?"

Different games flashed by on the screen, too fast for anyone to guess. No one spoke and everyone collectively held their breath.

The screen stopped on a yellow background with kanji behind it, spelling out "Cavalry Battle".

"It's basically the same as a regular cavalry battle, but the one thing that's different is... based on the results of the last game, each person has been assigned a point value."

Everyone discussed the upcoming challenge in hushed whispers. Irritated that no one was paying attention, Midnight snapped harshly at the crowd. After that, everyone was silent once more.

The screen behind her flashed once more, revealing the points awarded to each participant, up to 42 people.

"And the point value assigned to first place is..."

(Y/n) felt Izuku tense up next to her.

"Ten million!"

Eyes turned to Izuku, and there wasn't a friendly smile in sight. (Y/n) interlocked her fingers with Izuku's and gave his hand a gentle squeeze to reassure him.

Midnight continued to explain how the cavalry battle worked, but (Y/n) was too worried about Midoriya to focus.

He'll be fine... right?
