Todoroki knocked on the door. A gentle "come in" greeted him. He turned the door handle and let the door swing open. (Y/n) looked up from a cushiony seat set up next to a plain couch. The blinds were opened to let sunlight in and strewn around were too many stuffed animals to count.
Todoroki inspected the room with a mixture of confusion and interest. (Y/n) fidgeted with her hands and followed his gaze.
"I'm sorry if this all looks a little silly, but I wanted this place to be comfortable and relaxing to my patients. I feel it's important that they should be comfortable with sharing their problems in a welcoming environment." she explained rapidly. "I-If you don't like some of the plushies, I can put them away-"
"No, no it's fine." Todoroki sat down on the couch, sinking into the cushions. He took a kitten plush from the seat next to him and held it, as if to make the nurse feel better about her design choices.
(Y/n) brightened and sat straighter in her chair.
"Well, as you know I'm studying psychology and I want to put my studies to good use and help people solve their problems. Anything we discuss won't leave this room and you can explain as little or as much as you'd like." she explained. "Is there a place where you'd like to start?"
Todoroki was quiet. (Y/n) fiddled with the pen in her hand nervously.
"I went to go see my mother."
Todoroki's eyes flicked up to meet (Y/n)'s to catch her reaction. She said nothing but leaned in to show interest.
"After all these years I was able to see her. I could never visit because my father forbade my siblings and I."
(Y/n) tapped the pen on her clipboard and processed that information.
"Did your father specifically say you couldn't all these years?"
"He said it the night my mother was taken to the hospital. He hasn't said anything otherwise since."
"Do you think-" (Y/n) leaned back in her chair to study Todoroki. "-that the reason you haven't seen her all these years is because you felt like you wouldn't be welcome?"
Todoroki paused, staring into (Y/n)'s eyes. She gulped as his piercing gaze shot through her.
He may not mean to be, but he's pretty intimidating!
"Do you... partly blame yourself for what happened to her?"
Todoroki broke the stare and turned his gaze down.
"Yes. I know it was my father's fault for the most part, but... I sometimes feel like I was the one who startled her."
(Y/n) looked sympathetic and crossed her leg over the other.
"I haven't made many friends, mostly because I was so focused on disobeying my father and not doing what he chose for me to do."
"Do you find it hard to make friends?" (Y/n) asked.
"I think of you as... a friend."
"You didn't quite answer my question." (Y/n) shuffled her notes, a light blush dusting her cheeks. Todoroki sat back in his seat.
"At times." Todoroki answered. "After what Midoriya said to me at the Sports Festival... I don't know."
"Do you consider him to be your friend?"
Todoroki was silent for a moment before answering.
"Yes. I think I do."
(Y/n) smiled.
"That's good. You're building good relationships with your classmates, which is a step in the right direction."
"Do you consider me as a friend?" Todoroki's heterochromatic eyes bore into (Y/n).
"Of course I do!" (Y/n) grinned.
"Do you think of me as anything more?"
"Anything more?" (Y/n) cocked her head to the side. "What do you mean?"
"Hmm. Nothing." he glanced away.
"Well, it sounds like you're slowly opening up to people, and that's really great!" she put the clipboard and pen away. "Is there anything else you want to talk about?"
"There's someone... I can't stop thinking about." Todoroki admitted.
"Thinking about?" (Y/n) echoed. "In what way?"
"It's hard to describe. Whenever I see her, I have this feeling in my stomach. My face heats up and my heart beats faster. Yet I can't stop staring at her. It's... not a bad feeling, is it?"
"No no! Of course not." (Y/n) laughed. "I think you have a crush."
"A crush." Todoroki echoed.
"It sounds like you really like this girl. Can I hear more about her?" (Y/n) asked. Todoroki smiled and stared at his feet.
"She's devoted to her work in every way. She's kind and willing to help everyone. She's amazing at her job and does it to the fullest extent."
"She sounds very nice." (Y/n) noted.
"She can be quite naive as well." he chuckled. "She's faced problems in her life, but despite that, she greets every day with a smile. It's quite admirable."
(Y/n) smiled sadly.
"I can relate. I hope she feels the same way about you."
Todoroki nodded and stood up.
"I hope so too. I'll see you next week."
He reached for the door and opened it, turning one last time to nod at (Y/n). She gave a small wave and he left, closing the door with a click.
