Chapter 34: Apologies

"That's it?" (Y/n) cried, snatching the phone. "There has to be more, what happened?"

"Hey, (Y/n) calm down-"

"I need to know if they're-"

Her finger froze over the screen as she stared blankly at the background photo.

Shit... Shinso thought.

"(Y/n), I can explain-"

"What is this?"

Her voice trembled, barely over a whisper.

"You were talking in your sleep, I just thought it would be something funny to show you-"

"Oh, me under your mind control is funny huh? What did you make me do after falling asleep? Dance around like an idiot? Hurt someone? Break something?"

She stopped as a sick thought hit her.

"What did you do?"

"Nothing, I swear!" Shinso's eyes widened. "(Y/n), I'd never do something like that!"

He couldn't lose someone he valued so much. She was one of the only people to see past his villainous quirk and know the real him. He couldn't bear to watch her slip away.

"I hate when you do this Shinso. I feel like I can't trust you!" (Y/n) threw the phone back and ran her hands through her hair.

"(Y/n), you can always trust me-"

"How do I know that? This is the second time you've done this to me! And this time, I woke up on top of you on the couch! What did I-"

She ran her hands through her hair again, sinking to the floor and holding in sobs.

"(Y/n), you're stressed about the news, and Midoriya-"

"That's not it!"

She glared at him with tears in her doe-like eyes.

"You say you want to be a hero, but when you do shit like this, it's what makes people think you're a villain!"

Shinso froze, and (Y/n)'s eyes widened as she realized what she said. Jumping to her feet, she shoved his schoolbag into his chest and pushed him out the door.

"(Y/n)-"

"Shut up."

"(Y/n), just listen-"

"Go home, Shinso."

Her voice was flat and defeated. He stopped trying to fight her and allowed himself to be pushed into the pouring rain.

"I... I need time to think."

She shut the door with a resounding click, leaving the purple-haired boy alone with his thoughts in the rain.

(Y/n) ignored the multitude of buzzes coming from her phone. She buried her head in her pillow and tried to drown out the sounds.

The nurse had avoided going to school, telling her grandma she needed a break for a day. Her grandmother 

As time passed, the buzzes became less frequent, until they stopped altogether.

"Finally..." she sniffled. Grabbing a stuffed animal and hugged it to her chest.

The events of the night before replayed in her mind, over and over again.

"Hero Killer caught..."

"Go home, Shinso..."

"It's not.."

"... villain..."
