Chapter 5, Year 1

"Are you going home during Christmas break?" Adelaide asks Penelope. They had no classes, so they were currently in the common room. "Of course! Aren't you?" Penelope said, sitting up from the couch. "No, I'm staying here," Adelaide said, continuing to read the book she had in her hand. "Oh well, I'm sure you'll find something to do here," Penelope said with a sad smile.

The next morning, Penelope leaves for Christmas break. "Sorry I'm leaving you," Penelope saids and hugs Adelaide. "It's fine, I'll be fine," Adelaide reassures her, hugging her back. Penelope lets go of her. "I have to go now or I'll miss the train, bye!" Penelope says as she walks away waving at Adelaide. "Happy Christmas!" Adelaide yells out.

Adelaide walks back to her dorm and sits on her bed. "I think I'll write a letter to my parents, it's been awhile," she thinks to herself. "It's going to be your first delivery Snowball," she said to her white owl smiling.

'Dear Mom and Dad,

Merry Christmas! I'm sorry I haven't sent any letters since I came here, I know you've been worried about me. I don't know when you will get this, but when you get this and want to respond back, just send Snowball with a reply. I've been doing great at Hogwarts. I got into Slytherin! I made a Slytherin friend, but she currently went back home to her family. I have other friends here though, don't worry. I'm sorry I didn't go home for Christmas this year, I promise I will go home next year. I hope everyone's doing alright. I miss you all.

"Here you go Snowball," Adelaide said as she opened the window. Snowball grabs the letter with her beak and flies off. "Have a safe trip!" Adelaide yells.

Adelaide decides to go down to the Great Hall. She spots Ron and Harry. She walks over to them, "Hey Ron, hey Harry," she said with a smile. Ron looks at her with a glare. "Hey Adelaide," Harry said with a smile back. "I thought you might've gone home for Christmas," Harry said. "I wish," Ron muttered. Harry looks at Ron and frowns.

"So what are you two doing?" Adelaide asks looking at the chess board in front of them. "Playing wizards chess," Harry replies. "Or at least we were before you came along," Ron muttered to himself. Harry and Adelaide looked at Ron. Adelaide gave him a questioning look.

"Adelaide," Harry starts to say, "Can I talk to Ron in private for a minute?" Adelaide nodded, "I needed to go to the washroom anyways, I'll be right back." Harry nodded. Adelaide then walks away.

"What is your problem Ron?" Harry says sharply. "What are you talking about?" Ron said looking away. "What is you problem with Adelaide?!" Harry exclaims softly. "She's a Slytherin Harry! She's in Slytherin," Ron exclaimed , "There's not a single witch or wizard who went bad who wasn't in Slytherin!" "Adelaide is different," Harry argues back. "How?" Ron asks. "Well, she's a muggleborn, the first Slytherin muggleborn!"

"Hey guys, I'm back," Adelaide said walking back to the two. "Do you still need more time to talk privately?" she asks. "No, we're done," Harry smiles at her and gives Ron a look. "Yeah, we're done," Ron grumbles. "Alright!" Adelaide saids and sat down.

"So anything interesting going on?" Adelaide asks. "Well, we're trying to figure out who Nicholas Flamel is," Harry said. "Nicholas Flamel?" Adelaide asked out in confusion. "Who's Nicholas Flamel?" Adelaide questioned. "That's who we're trying to figure out, we said that already," Ron rolled his eyes at her. "Oh right... sorry," Adelaide apologizes. Harry glares at Ron.

"It's getting a bit late," Adelaide yawns, "I think I'm off to bed, see you tomorrow Harry and Ron," she said with a soft smile and walks away from the two. Once Adelaide got to her dorm, she collapsed her bed passing out.
