"Come on Adelaide, hurry up!" Penelope pleads. Penelope and Adelaide were getting their books for the new school year at Hogwarts. Penelope heard that Gilderoy Lockhart was in the book shop and she was excited to see him. Adelaide didn't know who the man was, but followed along.

"Did you know that he's our new Professor for DADA?" Penelope whispered to Adelaide once they entered the shop. Penelope then leaves Adelaide to get a closer look of Lockhart. Adelaide looks around and spots Draco looking down at the people who were there.

"It can't be... Harry Potter?" Lockhart suddenly announced catching the crowd's attention. The crowd whispered excitedly as he grabbed Harry's hand and turns him toward the photographer for a picture. Adelaide glanced up once more and sees Draco scoff at Harry.

Harry finally is released and comes with a pile of books in his arms. Mrs. Weasley comes taking the books, "Harry, now you give me those and I'll get them signed."

Adelaide waved at Harry to get his attention. He looked up and waved back, walking towards Adelaide.

"Bet you loved that, didn't you Potter?" Draco sneered coming down the stairs. "Famous Harry Potter, can't even go into a bookshop without making front page," he snapped. Harry clenched his jaw as Adelaide's smile faded.

Ron's little sister, Ginny, who was now next to Harry, "Leave him alone! " she said defensively. "Look Potter! You've got yourself a girlfriend," Draco smirks at Ginny and gave Harry a look, mocking him.

"Could you two just shut it," Adelaide speaks up without realizing. Ginny looks at her, "Stay out of this, it's not any of your business." Adelaide glared at her in disbelief.

Draco's mouth curved up a little, but quickly faded when he felt a tap on his shoulder. He looks up and sees his father. He quickly moved to the side. "Ah... Mr. Potter, I don't believe we've met," Draco's father says as he walks closer to Harry and moves his hair away exposing his scar. "Forgive me Mr. Potter, but your scar is legend. As, of course, is . the wizard who gave it to you," Lucius comments. Harry glares at him.

"Voldemort killed my parents, he was nothing more than a murderer," Harry spits out angrily. "You must be very brave to mention his name," Lucius tells him, "Or very foolish."

Hermione jumps into the conversation glaring at Lucius, "Fear of a name only increases fear of the thing itself." Lucius looks at her, "You must be Miss Granger, Draco's told me all about you and your parents." Adelaide frowns, feeling a sense of jealousy, when she hears Lucious say that Draco has talked about Hermione to him.

"Muggles, aren't they?" Lucius asked, looking at the muggles talking to a wizard. "Kids, let's go outside," Mr. Weasley says as he hurried over towards them. "Well, well, well," Lucius said turning his attention on him. "Arthur Weasley," he sneered. Mr. Weasley stood stiffly, "Lucius."

"Hey Adelaide! I got my books signed," Penelope calls out as she walks towards the group causing everyone to look at the two. Adelaide mentally facepalmed and felt her face warming up. Once Penelope got closer, she could feel the tense atmosphere around them.

"Hello Mr. Malfoy," Penelope greets, trying to avoid the fact she made everything awkward. "Miss Clearwater," he nods at her. "Friends with a muggle? What would your father say if he found out?" Lucius questioned. "Keep my father out of this," she snapped. "Her parents are fine with me being her friend, even though I'm a muggle," Adelaide speaks up. "Right?"

"We have everything right? Let's go," Penelope said avoiding what Adelaide said and walks out. Adelaide stood there for a moment as she came in realization that Penelope had lied to her. "I have to go," Adelaide said looking down in embarrassment as she walks out. Lucuis smirks. "Farewell Miss Rosewood," was the last thing she heard before the shop's door closed.

Penelope walks towards an alleyway. "Penelope, look at me," Adelaide demands grabbing Penelope's shoulder turning her around. "What did he mean by your father finding out? I thought you said your family didn't care about blood statues!" Penelope bit her lip, looking to the side. "Please, just tell me the truth," Adelaide pleaded.

"Fine," Penelope began, "You seemed easy to control when I first saw you, sitting all alone at the end of the table." Adelaide lower lip started to tremble, knowing she wanted to cry, so she nibbled on her bottom lip to stop it. "Didn't you say we were friends?" Adelaide quavered. Penelope smirked. "I lied, truth is, I never liked you. I just wanted to control you, that's why I wanted you to stay away from those Gryffindor's you got close to," she started again provoking Adelaide more. "You only needed to have me as a friend and no one else."

"My brother also was just pla-" Adelaide slaps Penelope. "Shut up." Penelope looks at her in shock as the color drained out of her face. "How dare you?! You will regret that!" she screeched. Adelaide gave her a bitter laugh, "I promise you, I won't." Adelaide walked closer to her with a glare, "Don't ever talk to me again," she said in a harsh voice, "And don't ever come running back to me." And with that, Adelaide walked away without looking back leaving Penelope as she went white.

Penelope looks around hoping no one saw what just has happened. Her blood ran cold as she caught two cold grey eyes glaring at her. Draco Malfoy had witnessed what had just happened.

A few weeks later, the day came to return to Hogwarts. Adelaide found herself staring out the window of the train in a compartment by herself, just like the previous year. She sighed.

"I found us an emp- oh, nevermind," Parkinson said rolling her eyes looking at Adelaide, "It's already occupied by the Mudblood." Adelaide turns and glares at her. "Where's your friend Mudblood? Did she finally leave you?" Parkinson snickers noticing that Adelaide was by herself.

"Stop being so annoying, will you?" Draco says as he pushes Parkinson to the side and sits next to Adelaide. Crabbe, Goyle, and Blaise Zabini followed and sat down as well, Crabbe and Goyle sitting across from Blaise, Draco, and Adelaide.

"Dracypoo! What are you doing sitting next to the Mudbl-" Blaise cuts her off, "Bloody hell Pansy, just sit down will you? There's no more empty compartments." Parkinson stomps her feet and sits next to Crabbe and Goyle, as she gives Adelaide a glare. Adelalide rolls her eyes and goes back to looking out the window.

After a short while, everyone in the compartment fell asleep, except for Adelaide and Draco.

Adelaide was about to fall asleep as well, until Draco spoke up, breaking the silence. "Are you okay?" he asked concered. Adelaide turns and looks at him. "Why wouldn't I be?" she sneered. "I just don't believe it," Draco began, "she actually betrayed you like that." Adelaide smiled bitterly, "Of course she did, I'm a Mudblood."

Draco looks at her. He thought about asking her to be friends, but he couldn't do it. He knew they were different people and will never be the same. "You can be with us," he offered, "So you won't be alone, we wouldn't betray you like that." Adelaide looks at him in disbelief and scoffs, "I don't want to be friends with you or your group." "I never asked for friendship, I'm just saying that you can follow us around, so you won't feel alone," Draco denied.

"Why are you helping me?" Adelaide implored. "I don't owe you an explanation Rosewood," Draco muttered. "Fine, I'll do it," Adelaide replied. "Thanks," she whispered and looks back out the window.

Draco looked at her, giving a soft smile, as he realized she soon fell asleep, laying her head on his shoulder.
