The next day, Gryffindors and Slytherins were all sitting in the classroom for divinations. Adelaide sat beside a table, that was on the far corner of the room. A Gryffindor boy also sat with her. She soon found out his name was Robert Franklin. He was also in her grade and he was really nice to her, despite that fact the Slytherin and Gryffindors didn't really get along well.
"Welcome my children," A woman says as she walks in. "In this room, you shall explore the mysterious art of Divination. You shall discover if you possess the sight. Hello, I am Professor Trelwaney and together we shall cast ourselves into the future," Professor Trelawney introduced herself.
"But know this," she continued. "One either has the gift or not, it cannot be divined from the pages of a book. Books only cloud one's Inner Eye." 'What is she even saying?" Adelaide frowned. She was confused and couldn't connect the words that Professor Trelwaney was saying. Robert chuckled.
"You boy! Is you grandmother doing well?" Professor suddenly asks Neville, scaring him. "I-I think so," Neville stutters. Professor Trelawney picks up Neville's cup that was in front of him and shakes her head. "Oh I wouldn't be so sure of that," she says, placing the cup back down as Neville immediately grabbed it, looking into it worriedly.
Professor Trelawney walks around the room as she speaks. "The first term will be devoted to the reading of tea leaves. We then will proceed to palmistry, fire omens, and finally the crystal ball." She turned to Parvati Patil. "By that way my dear, beware a red haired man," she advised her and walked away.
"Unfortunately classes will be disrupted in February by a nasty bout of flu, I myself will lose my voice. In late spring, one of our number will leave us forever." Everyone glanced at each other uneased.
After a few minutes of doing what they were supposed to do Professor Trelawney asks Ron to look into Harry's cup. "What do you see in Mr. Potter's cup, Mr. Weasley?" Ron looks into the cup as he opens his book beside him, flipping through the pages. "Well," he starts. "He's got a wonky sort of cross, trials and suffering. But this lot here, could be the sun, which is great happiness. So, he's going to suffer but he'll be very happy about it?" Ron says as he puts everything together.
"Give me the cup," Professor Trelawney tells him. Ron passes her the cup and she looked inside it. She gasped and dropped the cup. "What is it Professor?" Harry asked. "My dear boy... you have the Grim," she said in horror. "The Grin? What the Grin?" Seamus speaks up. "Grim, not the grin you idiot," Adelaide calls out and rolled her eyes at the Gryffindor. Seamus glared at her. Adelaide turned away and met Draco's eyes halfway.
"What's the grim Professor?" Someone in the class asked. "The Grim take the for of a giant spectral dog. It is the darkest omens in our world. It is an omen of death," Lavender Brown, a Gryffindor, read from her textbook. Adelaide eyes snapped towards Harry, looking at him with worry.
"Divination has fried my brain," Adelaide complained as Robert and her walked out for their next class that they had together, Care of Magical Creatures. Everyone met up at Hagrid's hut that was just outside the Forbidden Forest. Hagried was outside his door waiting for everyone to show up.
"C'mon now, get a move one," he said as everyone arrived. "Got a real treat for yeah today, great lesson coming' up, follow me," Hagrid leads the student to a part in the Forbidden Forest. "I thought we weren't allowed here," Robert whispered to Adelaide. She shrugged, "I thought so as well."
"Gather 'round and find yourself a spot," Hagrid calls out. "Now the first' thing ye will want to do is open yer books to page 49." "And how exactly do we do that?" Draco asks looking at the book. "Just stroke the spine of course," Hagrid replied. Adelaide watched Draco as he stroked the book's spine his and shrugged.
