Adelaide woke up a few minutes before they arrived at Hogwarts. No one asked if she was alright, they just looked out the window.
Once they arrived at Hogwarts and entered the Great Hall, they separated as they went to their own tables. Adelaide, as always, sat at the corner of the Slytherin table. Her mind wanders off once again.
"Potter!" Adelaide heard from the middle of the table. She looked up and saw Draco who was making fun of Harry. "Is it true you fainted? Like actually fainted?" Draco laughs as the one next to him pretended to faint. Harry glared at him and looking over Draco, he locked eyes with Adelaide from afar. He gave her a small soft smile before Ron turned Harry back around.
Draco frowned and turned back around to see who Harry. Before Adelaide could look away, she also ended up locking eyes with Draco. Her mind took her back, and her heart started to hurt as the word 'Mudblood' was ringing in her head. Adelaide turned away, but Draco kept his eye on her.
Adelaide has changed over the summer. Her raven, black hair was longer and her skin looked flawless as it has always been. Draco also noticed that her complexion seemed a bit pale. "Do you think Adelaide's alright? We didn't ask her if she as okay when she woke up," Draco heard Harry ask Ron.
Before Draco could turn around to ask what happened to Adelaide, Professor Dumbledore stands up and starts speaking. "Welcome to another year at Hogwarts! I have a few things to say before we become befuddled by our excellent feast. I myself am particularly looking forward to the flaming kiwi cups, while somewhat treacherous for those of us with facial hair," he rambles. Professor Mcgonagall clears her throat.
"Ah yes, first I'm pleased to welcome Professor R.J. Lupin, who has kindly consented to fill the post of Defense Against the Dark Arts," Dumbledore announces. "Good luck to you Professor." Everyone claps for him as he stands and waves at the students.
Dumbledore starts speaking again as the students stopped clapping. "As some of you may know, Professor Kettleburn, our Care of Magical Creatures teacher for many years, has decided to retire in order to spend more time with his remaining limbs. Fortunately, I'm delighted to announce that his place will be filled by more other than our own Rubeus Hagird!" Everyone cheers for him.
"Finally," Dumbledore continues, "On a more disquieting note, Hogwarts, at the request of the Ministry of Magic, will until further notice, play host to the Dementors of Azkaban. Adelaide frowns. "What are Dementors?" she thinks to herself. "Are they that black thing that was on the train?"
"The Dementors will be stationed at the entrances to the grounds. While they are under strict orders not to enter the castle itself, you will occasionally see them as you go about your daily activities. Under no circumstances are you to approach them. It is not in the nature of a Dementor to be forgiving," Dumbledore finishes and sits back down.
Adelaide sighs as everyone started eating. She stared at her plate of food, with no appetite. She glances at Draco's group and notice that Penelope is now sitting with them, as they all chat together. She looks at Draco, who was talking to Crabbe and Goyle, and took in his appearance. He didn't have his hair gelled back like the last two years and he was more attractive than before. His voice matured as well.
She kept staring at him before realizing Draco was looking at her. Her eyes slightly widened and she turned back to her untouched plate of food. She could feel herself getting rid of embarrassment. She could feel him still looking at her. She wanted to look up, but was afraid to make eye contact with him again. She fell into temptation, and gave a quick glance up to confirm to herself, that he was still looking at her. She was right, however, Draco looked away they made eye contact once again.
Adelaide sighed and poked at her food with her fork. She then stood up and walked out of the Great Hall, not wanting to be in there anymore. She walked down to the dungeons and entered the Slytherin common room. "This is going to be a rough year," she sighed and entered her dorm.
She got changed for bed and she sat on her bed looking out the window. "I'm afraid that I might have started like him," Adelaide whispered as she started to tear up. "But I left him and now I have no one. They even replaced me with Penelope already." Adelaide regretted what she did and wondered if things would've been different if she didn't tell Draco to stay away from her. "Would he still have talked to me?" Adelaide looked at Snowball.
"What am I even saying," she bitterly laughed to herself. "I'm a mudblood and he's a pureblood, nothing would've worked out between us, even just as friends." Adelaide laid on her bed and looked at the ceiling as a tear rolled down her cheek. "We're both from two different worlds and that will never change."
