CASPIAN
We both stood there looking at each other for a couple of moments not saying anything and I wasn't going to let her leave until she explained.
"Fine, I'll tell you but you get the short version." She begins before sitting down and I sit next to her before she continues.
"When I was a little girl, both my parents were killed by LaVarkin's father. With both my parents being what they were and the powers they had, just knowing I was their child, he knew what all I was capable of doing and of course, like many others who think like he does, they hated me for it as well. Even in school I was teased and tormented because of who I was." She says through sniffles.
"It's funny because you would think that somebody with abilities and powers like me, I would have everything. There'd never be a reason for me to be unhappy or to complain or anything really. But I learned very quickly that I couldn't just use my gifts and abilities I always had to be careful and hide most of them in case LaVarkin's father saw me grow." She says as she wipes some tears from her eyes.
This was not at all how I'd pictured it ever being as the reason for why she is doing business with LaVarkin but also, I'm learning that she is nothing as I have prejudged her to be like.
"So, are you saying that he wants you for your abilities?" I ask.
"Yeah. Since the day I was born." She says. "Every night I have to say a protection spell so that he doesn't take me in my dreams. I fear everyday that it'll be my last because of what I am and who I am the daughter of. I want so badly to be proud of me but I can't." She cries.
Well this makes me feel like a misjudging asshole. Although I wonder, does she still not know that her big customer is a demon?
"Can I ask you something?" I ask her.
"Sure." She sniffles and shrugs her shoulders.
"Did you know that LaVarkin is your customer?" I ask hoping she tells me she didn't know.
She snaps her head at me confused and in disbelief, which says it all.
"I've never seen him. How do you know? And who is he?" She asks.
"He's your favorite customer. The one that came by before when I was there and he..." She holds up her hand and stops me.
"Oh my god." She says as she looks like she's about to be sick.
"What?" I ask.
"I'm such an idiot. I...how could I have missed it?" She says. "Of course he wouldn't be himself. I can't believe I didn't see it."
"Hey, it's okay. You didn't know." I try to comfort her but am not sure how.
"I should have known this wouldn't last." She says under her breath.
"What wouldn't last?" I ask.
"Nothing." She shakes her head 'no'.
"It's alright, you can tell me."
"No. It's...It doesn't matter. I have to go." She says as she stands up and starts walking away.
"Wait, I'll walk with you." I tell her.
"No." She says.
"Well too bad, I'm not letting you walk by yourself after all of that." I tell her.
"Please...Just stay away from me. For you and your packs safety. Just stay away." She insists.
What is this that I'm feeling right now? Guilt? Pain? Do I care about her? Do I even like her? Oh my god, what the hell are we these thoughts in my head?!?
When I look up after snapping myself out of my thoughts, I notice she is already gone.
Then when I try and catch up to her, I lose her scent and don't see her on the way back to the shop.
How could I have been so mean and have misjudged her? Most importantly, what exactly is going on and do the Elders know about this? I don't think they do but they should. She should tell them all because I know if they knew then she would be protected by them.
I'm going to speak to the council tomorrow and inform them. Maybe they can help protect her.
Next chapter will be posted soon! :)
