After not being able to sleep all night thinking about poor Tara, I'd gotten up extra early and sat outside with Piney and Bobby with a coffee as they read their newspapers and smoked in silence. When Tara's car pulled in to the lot Piney looked at me with raised eyebrows "say nothing Evelyn, let her find out on her own"

I grumbled under my breath "still feels a bit like betrayal but whatever you say"

Piney has always felt like a strong father figure in my life, especially after my fathers death. I loved him as much as I loved my own father and respected his wishes, mostly. It's not that I didn't love Clay, I did, but I'd always felt a bit betrayed by just how quickly he'd moved in after JT's death to comfort my mother.

Tara walked towards us looking tired and withdrawn "Have you seen Jax?"

Bobby spoke before I could "was in his dorm last I heard darlin'" Tara nodded a thanks before heading inside and I turned to Bobby with a look of disapproval "Evie, you know it's for the best when Ima comes out you can do whatever you want, we won't stop you" he mumbled looking back down at his newspaper.

It wasn't long before Tara came racing back out with Jax hot on her heels but she was in her car and gone without stopping to talk to him. He spun back around to walk back inside and gave me a dirty look on his way past.

I felt my fists clench as I struggled to contain how angry I was at him but before I could say anything Piney's hand was on mine reassuringly and Jax disappeared back inside "you're both too old to be ending up in physical altercations and if Jax accidentally hurts you Evie, you know Happy will spit it"

I nodded in agreement and sat with them a while longer until Jax came outside dressed and took off on his bike, it was then I decided I needed another coffee and headed inside hoping Ima would make an appearance. Instead I found Happy sitting at the bar eating a piece of toast by himself "where've you been?"

Before I could answer Ima walked out smirking at me with a look of satisfaction "Morning Happy" she all but purred as she ran her hand across his back on her way passed, he looked at me stunned not sure what to do but without thinking I'd already grabbed her by the hair and slammed her face into the bar.

She scrambled too her feet and took off as Happy started laughing "wow babe, that was...a lot"

Tig ran out, disappointment clear on his face when there was no one fighting "I heard the bang but I couldn't get dressed quick enough...I missed it" he pouted and I felt myself laugh.

"Naw Tig, always next time"
