"So you have company.." I said as I tried to hide my frown with a fake smile.
"Hey, we met the other time on Skype? I'm Shanae," I introduced myself.
"Gina? What are you doing here? Were you the one? Gosh," Tyler sighed.
"Hi, Tyler and Shanae right? Heard a lot about you. We three were great friends back then," she said with a grin.
I smiled as I acknowledged her existence. I pecked a little kiss on Zoey's forehead and dreaded out of the room. As much as I wanted to accompany her and be by her side, Gina's existence was probably preferable than mine. The look that Gina gave me says it all. It was like Joey belongs to her and no one else.
I walked the hallways of the hospital before examining my surroundings. I saw kids running around while parents were trying to get a hold of them. The other half of the people were either pushing someone in a wheelchair or just walking around minding their own business.
I sat on a nearby bench as I drowned in self-pity. These days, life is just a big ball of mess. As I wiped away my tears using the back of my hands, a piece of tissue appeared from my view.
"Life is too short to cry! Just enjoy while it last," She took a seat beside me and nudge me by the side.
"What if there's nothing to enjoy about life?" I sniffed.
"When there's a will, there's always a way. You just have to figure it out or else I will have to figure it out for you,"
I took the tissue and wiped the remaining tears that were streaming down my cheeks. I thanked her as I inspected her face and her body. She looked tough like a really strong cookie but it feels like she might crumble anytime. Her face was pale but there was something inside her that she was holding onto pain? Maybe. Her arm was plastered with a band-aid on her arm.
"So what are you doing here?" I asked out of curiosity.
"Nothing much, just an annual checkup no biggie, you?"
"Someone important is here, and I'm visiting," I responded looking at my feet swaying back and forth.
"So, who's this VIP?" She chuckled emphasising on the 'VIP'.
"I don't think she's important anymore," I waved it off.
"Oh really? You gay?" She asked.
"What?!" I shrieked as everyone stared at me like I'm some kind of freak.
"Relax, I was just joking," she cooled it off.
"Oh haha, well yes I'm with a girl," I shrugged. "But in that room, there's another girl she's with that is keeping her company," I added.
"Well, Reagan strikes again with the gay-dar!" She punched the air with her balled fist.
"Reagan?"
"Reagan rhymes with dragon, Rawr," She clawed her hand and lurched towards me. I pushed her away as I tried to hold in my laughter but failed as I huffed out a chuckle.
"You're silly,"
"And you're cute," she added.
"You look better when you're smiling, instead of weeping in your own tears," she said.
She was looking paler as we speak. I kept asking whether she was alright but she just shook it off and told me she was fine. A few minutes later she told me that she had to leave, someone was waiting for her. I keyed my phone number in her phone and mentioned that we should hang out sometime. She nodded and sped her way off.
Before I walk back to my bike, I went to get a drink at the nearest vending machine. While I was fiddling my coin, figuring out what I should buy to quench my thirst. A figure pulled my arm and brought me to the side of the machine.
"You asshole, I thought someone was kidnapping me," I punched Tyler on his arm.
"I saw you with that girl?" He claimed as he looked at me in the eye finding for answers.
"So?" I shoved him away as I look towards the vending machine once again.
"Look, as much as Gina likes Joey. They're never getting back together again!" He claimed.
"So, they were together before?" I turned my eyes towards him.
"Yes...No... I don't know, it's complicated!" He stammered.
"Nothing is complicated, it's either you like them or not. You're with them or not," I focus my attention on the drinks once again.
"Fine. Back at our old hometown, we three were close until Joey fell for Gina. Joey was this sick love puppy while Gina was treating her like a piece of crap. She was too blind to see that Gina was using her, but she stayed with Gina no matter how painful it was. There were times when Joey wanted to leave her but Gina wouldn't let her. She would threaten to kill herself if Joey had left," He stated. I inserted a few extra changes into the machine and pressed the button for a can of coke.
"So what happened after that?" I asked while trying to pry open the can.
He then snatched it away from my hands. "Will you listen to me?!"
"Okay geez," I lift my hands in the air.
"One day, Gina left a voice note of her crying and wailing her eyes out threatening to kill herself and when Joey when to her apartment. She saw Gina wasted on her bed with some random dude. Since then she swore to herself that she would never be with someone like her or Gina herself," he finished his sentence as he opened the can and pass it to me.
