It's been days of making trips to the hospital just to stay by Reagan's side. I've been here for so long that i'm starting to hate the smell of it, but staying here with Reagan takes my mind away off Joey. I've been thinking about her lately or constantly, checking my phone hoping that she would text me. Sometimes I would occasionally look at our past conversations or the photos that we were in.
Reagan is starting to look a little bit better, she looks much more happier and healthier. If only getting over Joey was an easy task, I would be able to ease my mind a little. I thought the connection between Joey and I was over but I guess I'm just a little indecisive.
It was 12pm in the afternoon, meaning it was lunch time. Reagan is attempting to eat the food that was issued by one of the nurses here. It's cute how she struggles to swallow the gross food on her plate. It probably tastes twice as bad as it looks.
Warrent is so caught up in her own job and her friends that we barely even talked these days. Every Saturday, mom, Tyler, Warrent and I would gather together for dinner. But i've been skipping since the day Reagan was admitted. I promised them that I would appear on the following Saturday , but I have second thoughts on leaving Reagan alone.
"Reagan, as much as I don't want to leave. I have to," I turned my smile into a frown.
"I wish I could stay but i've been skipping Saturday dinners and I promised Tyler that I would attend the next one," I said.
"Shan, it's fine. You don't have to stay, go have fun with your family alright," she smiled.
"Joey, we have to prep you up," A nurse came around the room.
"Prep? What?" I turned my head around.
"Nothing Shan, just go. She's just monitoring my status, please go and have fun alright?"
"I'll be back as soon as i'm done," I kissed her forehead and pulled my hand away from hers.
As soon as I stepped out of the hospital. I hailed a cab and gave the driver the address to mom's house and eventually slept throughout the whole ride.
I thought I was dreaming when I heard a low and husky voice from my sleep. I thought that the driver would appear to be more scary-looking but when I woke up the driver looks different from what I imagined. He looked nice and well-groomed. I thought drivers would look scruffy but he changed my perspective about taxi drivers. I handed my fee and thanked him once again. I walked out of the car and proceeded to the door, gave it a few hard knocks before staring at the most beautiful pair of eyes.
"Hey," I waved.
"Hey..come in," she moved her body to the side and I made my way in.
"Shanae's here!" Tyler shouted and gave me a big bear hug.
"Aww, you miss me?" I awed as I ruffled through his hair.
We both then caught up on school and soon after Joey joined our conversation. Warrent then came in through the front door, just in time for dinner.
We three set up the table while Warrent went into the bathroom for a quick wash up. Moments later, we were settled down with square shape lasagna on our plates. We ate silently until mom stopped me from gobbling down the lasagna and bashed me with questions about school and life and everything else that was happening in my life. We talked for quite sometime till our food were swooped away into our mouths leaving a clean and empty plate.
Everyone had their own job to do. Joey and I were in-charged of washing the dishes, Tyler had to wipe the plates dry and Warrent had to wipe the table clean while mom prepares for dessert.
Joey was so playful and made a whole lot of mess around the sink. She splashed water everywhere. I was so furious when she got my shirt wet, so I got my revenge and did the same thing. Luckily I had left a shirt a while back so I went up to change. While mom prepares the table for dessert, my phone rang out of the blue. I answered the call and instantly recognised Doctor Vasquez's voice, she told me to come back to the hospital as fast as possible. I was at the edge of the cliff, I could feel like something was wrong. Straight away, I grabbed my stuff and excused myself from dessert and quickly rushed out the door.
It was nearly 9 and there wasn't any cab that was passing by. Joey then walked over to me and asked what was going on. I didn't had any time to waste so I asked her for a favour to drop me at the hospital.
She fished out her keys from her pocket and open the door to her car. She inserted her keys into the ignition and started the engine before racing through the traffic to drop me off at the hospital. She looked serious, she knows that something was wrong and yet she didn't pester me about it. I'm so grateful to have her right now.
As soon as she swerved her car near the entrance of the hospital. I opened the door and sprinted my way inside. I climbed the stairs and zig-zagged across the hallways. I turned the knob and barged my way in just to get a glimpse of an empty bed with new set of clean sheets.
I proceeded to the counter, desperately demanding the nurses to page Doctor Vasquez. The nurse then told me to calm down saying that she was on hold with another patient.
My hair was tangled in a mess, my cheeks were covered in tears. Reagan was not there she's missing and the only person I wanted to talk to is Doctor Vasquez. I then slammed the counter and demanded the nurse to page for Doctor Vasquez until she answers them and appear right before my eyes.
"Shan?"
"Calm down," Joey added. She pulled me into a hug as I sobbed on her shoulder. I can't lose Reagan, not now.
"Shanae Rae Watson? Doctor Vasquez wants to meet you now," The nurse on the front counter stated.
I then pulled Joey with me and told her to wait outside.
