Peter sighed as he helped Edmund sit down against a tree, keeping a hand placed on his shoulder.
"Please tell me you grabbed my tunic." Edmund muttered as he shivered.
Peter nodded and handed it to him. "Here." He mumbled.
"Thanks." Edmund replied, slipping it over his head, unable to hide a wince.
"You okay?" Peted asked hurriedly, his eyes full of worry.
Edmund shrugged. "Not really but-" He sighed, not finishing his sentence. "She - She nearly killed you." He choked after a while.
Peter bit his lip. "I bet she was only bluffing." He said.
"What makes you think that?" Edmund asked.
"Well," Peter said slowly. "Didn't she want me to watch her k-kill you?" He said.
Edmund thought for a moment. "Probably." He muttered. "I'm just glad you escaped, just incase she wasn't bluffing and she really was going to kill - kill you."
Peter nodded. "Let's go back to Cair." He said.
Edmund bit his lip. "But I have to kill the witch Peter." Edmund sighed. "Otherwise I'll die."
Peter nodded. "I know that." He said. "But think about it. Jadis is going to follow us wherever we go, so if we go back to Cair we can set up a trap or something. We'll have a lot more backup and then when we trap her you can kill her." He paused. "You're way too weak to duel her Ed."
Edmund sighed. "You're right." He mumbled. "But - But if we lead Jadis back to Cair we'll be putting everyone I danger, Peter, what about Susan and Lucy?"
Peter sighed. "They'll be over the other side of the castle." He said firmly. "I won't let the witch anywhere near them Ed, I-" He swallowed hard.
"Pete?" Edmund questioned, frowning.
"I can't promise." Peter whispered suddenly.
Edmund frowned. "Why not?"
"Every promise I've made I've broken." Peter said quietly, looking at the ground.
Edmund sighed. "Peter-" He choked.
But Peter shook his head. "I promised the witch wouldn't come back to life. I promised that I'd keep you safe. I promised that I wouldn't let her hurt you. I promised that you'd be fine - I promised that everything would he fine."
Edmund sighed, swallowing hard.
"I broke all of those promises." Peter said, tears in his eyes.
"Peter please." Edmund said. "It's fine, you thought the witch would never be able to come back to life, and I thought that too."
Peter bit his lip.
"Don't start beating yourself up over this." Edmund added quietly.
Peter sighed. "Alright." He mumbled, looking at his brother and giving him a forced smile.
Edmund smiled a little bit back before his expression changed and he wrapped his arms around his stomach. "I think I'm gonna be sick." He choked.
Peter quickly helped him lean over and sat beside him, kneeling and placing a hand on his back.
Unfortunately for Edmund there wasn't much for him to throw up seeming as he hadn't eaten for a few days, he just sat there, almost choking as he threw up... basically nothing.
"Okay." Peter whispered, placing his hand instead on the back of Edmund's head. "Alright. It's alright."
After a while Edmund slowly sat up, collapsing against Peter as he wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. Tears rolled slowly down his cheeks as he let out a small sob, causing Peter's heart to break. Pulling his younger brother into a tight hug Peter began whispering reassuringly in his ear as he cried. "Everything's gonna he fine." He choked.
"I - I don't fell well at all." Edmund choked, slowly pulling away from his brother.
"This is ridiculous." Peter muttered. "You're way too weak."
Edmund just stared at him. "I just wanna sleep." He sighed.
Peter hesitated. "Ed we need to get as far away from that castle as we can." He said almost guiltily.
Edmund nodded. "I know." He sighed.
"You could - go to sleep." Peter said. "And I could carry you?"
Edmund very clearly hesitated but in the end shook his head. "No." He mumbled.
"Ed." Peter sighed.
"I can walk Peter." Edmund said slowly. "I don't need to be carried."
Peter sighed but gave in anyway. "What do you say we walk until it starts getting light before you sleep." He said before adding: "Obviously with some breaks."
Edmund slowly nodded. "Sounds okay." He mumbled, although Peter knew he was lying.
"Come on then." Peter muttered as he carefully pulled Edmund to his feet.
Edmund winced slightly but to his surprise managed to hide it before the two began walking... at a very slow pace. "I can't walk any faster." Edmund mumbled.
"It's fine Ed." Peter said softly. "I wouldn't want you walking any faster." He added.
Edmund nodded a little as they continued walking, Edmund keeping as close to Peter as he possibly could. Everytime so much as a twig snapped Edmund would jump out of his skin, Peter thought it probably didn't help matters that it was pitch black and they could hardly see a thing.
A whole hour passed and Edmund was still saying that he was fine and could continue walking, but Peter could literally hear him trying to breath properly and now he was also leaning against him, eyes half closed.
"We're stopping for fifteen minutes." Peter said firmly.
"I'm - fine." Edmund breathed.
"No you're not Ed." Peter said. "If you keep going you're gonna pass out!"
Edmund sighed but let Peter sit him against a tree, sighing as he did.
"You need to rest Edmund." Peter sighed as he sat beside him.
Edmund sighed. "I know." He mumbled. "But - What if she finds us? She found out the second we left that you weren't in the cell, therefore she's probably only a mile behind us!"
"Edmund it's okay." Peter said gently, pulling Edmund close. "We're only stopping for fifteen minutes and then we'll carry on okay?"
Edmund nodded, forcing his eyes to stay open as he rested his head against Peter's chest. "Okay." He mumbled, yawning.
Peter waited, and sure enough within two minutes Edmund was fast asleep. Sighing he kissed the top of his head, pulling him closer and leaning back against the tree.☆♡☆♡☆♡☆♡☆♡☆♡
