A Rose with Thorns (Tsukiyama x Kanae/Karren)

"Karren! Karren darling, where are you?" Shuu calls out to the young lady. Kanae blushes immensely as she is seen walking his way.

"M-Master Shuu, not so loud please, your father could hear..." Shuu smiles warmly. "Well why ever so not, my lovely Karren?" She covers her face. "Your father could possibly hear you say that name..." Shuu tilts his head. "Why, what could be wrong with that, my Karren?" Kanae sighs.

"He doesn't know me as that yet, it wouldn't be right if he found out through...this."

Shuu sighs. "Than...how should he know?" Kanae stays silent.

The day that Haise Sasaki was fighting Shuu and Kanae, was one that left Shuu and Kanae very confused. Haise's hair went back to Kaneki's black hair, while also nearly killing Kanae, Eto, and even Shuu.

When Sasaki let go of Shuu, Kanae went by instinct and jump after her master.

There Kanae confessed her feelings to her master, confessing to feeling so much conflict. But after hearing Shuu finally calling her by her real name, Kanae knew she would give her life to save him.

However, life held stronger plans for her. Somebody saved both Shuu and Kanae before Kanae would do anything rash. She saw clearly, it was an Ukaku ghoul.

It was a girl that went by the name 'Touka Kirishima', whom Shuu seemed to have good acquaintance with. Thanking her for the rescue.

After that, both Shuu and Kanae went together in hiding with a group of other ghouls, including Shuu's father.

"Karren, it would it help if we told him together?" Kanae blushes. "Come on Shuu... It feels like this huge guilt in my heart keeps telling me that all I am is a lie, I lied to your father all of this time, imagine him when we explain it to him now... Not only that, but eventually we'll have to bring up us dating, you know? It would be shameful, distant relatives, together romantically." Shuu shakes his head.

"We're distant cousins, barely related! Better than most previous royalty of humans! Karren, I love you..." Kanae can feel her chest flutter, her eyes glimmers as she looks at Shuu.

"I love you too, but can we just start off with baby steps?" Shuu nods. "That would sound right... Now come on, let's go out!"

Kanae was well dressed for a special occasion she and Shuu were going to share, a date!

"You sure no one will recognize us?" "Karren, it's not like it's a public place. And besides, even if someone does, it wouldn't make a difference." Kanae sighs. "Alright Shuu." Shuu nods, and they head off.

They make it to the Tsukiyama mansion, Kanae stands there, away from Shuu. She looks over it. "What do you think they'll do with it?" "...I don't know. We both grew up here, most of us grew up here. It's hard to imagine what's going to happen to it..." Shuu walks up to Kanae, placing his hand on her shoulder.

"Remember when you used to play in the garden? It took you a while, but you learned to warm up to this place... I used to think of you as my brother, now you're more like my girlfriend. Funny how that works, huh?" Kanae snuggles up to Shuu with great warmth from all of the nostalgia.

"I wished we raised a family here..." Kanae confesses with guilt. "But now...it's impossible to. Why did this have to happen?" Shuu sighs. "Things happen, rather we wish for it or not..."

Shuu grabs her hand.

"Enough about that! Let's just enjoy ourselves in the garden!" He pulls her along, and Kanae keeps on tripping. "W-Wait-! Shuu!"

They make it to the center of the garden, Shuu pulls Kanae close to his body, holding her hand. "Ever since we...fell in love, I've always wanted to dance with you here, at least once..." Kanae blushes immensely as Shuu begins moving their bodies in a tango sort of dance.

Shuu hums a melody as he danced with the female ghoul. Kanae started to move along with his movements, humming along. It was nighttime, the stars were out, barely any light was seen. You couldn't even see the flowers unless you would completely focus.

But all of that didn't matter, as long as they could feel, hear, and move. They were just happy to be there in the garden once more.

Shuu dips the girl, lowering her body without letting go. Somehow, they saw each other's eyes within the darkness.

"Shuu..." "Karren... Oh Karren..." Karren leaned forward and kissed his lips gently, it was way better than she ever could imagine.

The pair continue to dance for awhile, this time it was silent. No humming.

But soon, they must leave their precious garden once again.

"Shuu, we have to go...maybe doves will check this place out again..." Shuu sighs. "It really isn't fair, but you're right..." The two share a hug and another kiss in the garden before they would have to leave.

"Shuu...do you think someday we'll have our home back?" Shuu shakes his head. "Honestly? No... But who's to say, sometimes life...has other plans." Karren smiles softly at the comment.

"I really liked dancing with you Shuu, we should do it again sometime..." Shuu nods. "I would like that... But can we also play piano and violin together?"

Karren blushes. "How do you know that I...?" "I saw you play it outside as I played, I honestly didn't know how to bring it up." They both share a laugh.

"Come on Shuu, let's go back to the hideout..." They both look at the garden and mansion one last time, then they left.

These two knew the garden was just a dream they were in temporally, but they had each other for most of their days alive. And that was something to look forward to for all of eternity, and they were completely content with the idea of it.
