Chapter Nine

Was he going to kiss me? We were inches apart our bodies getting closer with each second

"Oh my god!" I heard a voice behind Lucas and he quickly moved away

Oh fuck

It was Riley and Farkle

Shit!

"Heyyyy guys" I said stepping more into the light

"We though you were a camp counsellor" I shyly laughed,

Riley was already suspicious that something was going on between me and Lucas and now she had walked in to me up against the wall of the cave with Lucas stood extremely close to me

I slightly turned to Lucas and whispered "Just stay here for a minute I'll talk to them" I smiled and walked up to Riley and Farkle grabbing both of their hands

I pulled them outside, Riley had a big goofy smile on her face and Farkle, well I couldn't really tell what he was thinking

"You and Lucas!" Riley asked giddily

I shook my head "No, it's nothing. We are just friends — actually we're not even that"

"It didn't look like that just then" Riley smirked at me and I playfully nudged her arm

"Honestly it's nothing, we were just hiding so he didn't have to go back to work" I was being honest

I was probably overthinking things back in the cave. Of course he wouldn't want to kiss me it's probably all just in my head my own feelings

Lucas walked out "I should go" he slightly smiled at me and started to walk back

"Farkle go and stop him please" I said quickly, I didn't want him to leave we were having fun and he looked happy besides he had been doing the most work out of everyone he deserved a break

Farkle was just staring at me "What?" I asked a little weirded out he hadn't said anything and now he was just staring at me

"What happened to your side?" Seriously again?!

I played it off again "I tripped and banged into a table the other day"

And I then quickly changed the subject "Now can you go and tell Ranger Rick to come back?"

Farkle hesitatingly nodded and then followed after him

"I still can't believe you and Lucas!" Riley said once Farkle was out of earshot

"Riley! There's nothing going on" I repeated again

"There must be you took him here of all places" I raised my eyebrow in confusion, did she just forget I haven't been to this camp before

"This is where all the older campers go to make out or have sex" I think the look of pure shock that came across my face was obvious now that I had no idea

Oh god! Lucas probably had the wrong idea now

Damnit!

"Don't worry the counsellors and other workers don't know about it, that's why everyone comes here" I let out a breath of relief that meant he doesn't know

"Wait... You came here with Farkle" I pointed out and Riley's face turned a bright red

"No no no! I was looking for you" she was clearly very embarrassed and I couldn't help but laugh

"Okay sure you were" I patted her on the arm and noticed Farkle and Lucas walking back over to us

"Here comes your boyfriend now" I joked and Riley playfully or maybe angrily shoved me

"Hart can I speak to you?" I nodded and walked a little further away with Lucas

"Friar what's up?" He rubbed the back of his neck and awkwardly laughed

"Well- uhm" he cleared his throat, jeez just spit it out already Huckleberry

"Farkle told me- uh about this place" I was hit with a sudden realisation and I felt my cheeks heat up

"Look Hart you're beautiful and all but—"

I interrupted before this got even more awkward "Listen Ranger Rick before you reject me or whatever I didn't know I just brought you here because I wanted us to have fun nothing more."

Well that proves it I definitely just imagined whatever there was between us in the cave, he wasn't leaning in to kiss me like I thought

"Oh, well that's um that's good" I nodded and this just felt awkward now, maybe it would be better if he did go back

"We should go back to the others" he suggested thankfully, this conversation was getting painfully silent

I agreed and all four of us walked back to the rest of the camp, well we had fun for a little while anyway

Once we were back immediately, Riley and Farkle and me all sat back where we left our bags

"I'm going to kill you" I mutter to Farkle, what did he even say to Lucas!

I really hope he hasn't ruined whatever the hell is going on between us

Farkle looked at me with an alarmed look on his face, he knew what I was talking about. He gave a sheepish grin and looked away

The day from this point kind of dragged, I immediately put my shirt back over my swimsuit once we sat back down I couldn't be bothered to deal with more questions about the bruise on my side

Lucas had been sitting over with the other workers and counsellors he didn't look like he was having much fun anymore either

I tried to keep my back turned on him so I didn't keep looking over, I just felt so awkward now after everything that had happened

Thankfully though after a few more hours Margery the older woman in charge told everyone to get in their groups and start heading back
