Chapter Eleven

We got into pairs and waited for our turn at this climbing wall

I was paired with Riley but before our turn and before we got into the equipment Lucas came up to us.

"Hart" he stepped in front of me

"Friar?" I spoke in a questionable tone, what did he want? I just want to rock climb

"Riley would you mind if I took your place as Maya's partner" I think my mouth literally dropped open

What! Why!?

My head was spinning with possibilities

"I just want to make sure she's okay since she's not feeling well" Oh that's why

"Sure I'll be Farkles partner" she stepped back next to Farkle, but he wasn't participating because he hates physical activity which makes it confusing why he's here at a camp

"Okay!" Farkle said enthusiastically, could he be more obvious. It's so clear they like each other and they would be perfect together

"I guess I'm with you Ranger Rick" he tipped a fake hat at me and then helped me into the harness

"Ready?" He questioned

"Race you!" I smirked and started climbing as fast as I could without falling

I stopped and turned back to Lucas "You're so slow, I'm winning"

"Maybe I'm admiring the view" he flirted but he only spoke loud enough so I could hear

I rolled my eyes and blushed slightly, smooth huckleberry

"Try admiring from afar" I started climbing again but not long after Lucas was right next to me

"How are you good at everything!" I joked stopping trying to figure out how to get further up from this point, I was so close to the top

"So how's the rock climbing going?" I wasn't expecting that voice and got startled next thing I know I was falling

Thankfully the harness stopped me right before I hit the floor, Lucas quickly came down and stood by my side "Maya are you okay?" He placed his hands on my arms and had a concerned look in his eyes

Riley, Farkle and a few other campers rushed over to us all asking me if I was okay

"Careful Maya, you don't wanna hurt yourself" I looked at the ground and focused on getting my harness off I didn't want to look at him

"Are you sure you're okay?" Lucas asked me again I nodded and looked up at the crowd and directly saw him, those dark brown eyes I've tried so hard to forget were looking intensely at me

I felt my heart beating so hard in my chest "I-I-um" I couldn't get my words out

"Miles can you watch the group I'm going to take Ms Hart and check she's okay" Lucas intertwined this fingers with mine holding my hand, I immediately felt a little more relaxed by his touch but then I registered what he said

"NO!" I mostly shouted, I didn't want my friends to be left alone with him

"Maya" Lucas spoke quieter and softer "Just come with me, I promise we'll be quick and we can come back" I looked back at Jay this time with a deathly glare if looks could kill this one would

I nodded at Lucas with a much softer expression and then whispered to Riley so nobody overheard us "Promise me you won't go up until Lucas is back" I needed her to be okay and I didn't trust Jay at all, how he got this job is a huge shock to me
