Chapter Twenty-Three

"Hey Farkle have you heard anything?" I whispered once we were stood next to him

"Some kids have been whispering apparently it's about Lucas and the break ins" My heart started beating faster

I know Lucas hasn't done anything wrong but I'm worried what if they got to him, Jay said he wouldn't do anything to Lucas as long as I kept his secret and I have, but I can't ever trust Jays word on anything

I started frantically looking around trying to spot Lucas in the crowd but I couldn't find him

Please let me just be worrying for nothing

I watched the door waiting for Lucas to walk in but he didn't

Margery got on stage and he still wasn't here, where the hell is he?

She tapped the microphone to get everyone's attention "Good morning campers I hope you're all doing well"

"Now for the reason I called you all here, as I'm sure all of you are aware for the past week some of our cabins and other buildings have been broken into" mutters erupted from the crowd and she just carried on talking over everyone

"I assure you it isn't anything to worry about we have it all under control however it has been brought to my attention that some parents are worried so we will be cancelling your activities for the day and everyone will be taking part in self defence courses" I turned to look at Riley she was just picking at her nails nervously

I grabbed her hand "It's okay like they said it's nothing to worry about" I whispered so others didn't overhear us and get worried, she just nodded in response

Everyone started leaving so I looked around for Lucas one more time incase he came in whilst she was speaking but he still wasn't here so I just walked out with Riley and Farkle

We all made our way to our separate group meet up places and when I saw Lucas I let out a breath of relief

But my relief didn't last long, I noticed Jay he was in the corner of my eye and I noticed him pull that Charlie Gardner boy to the side to talk to him

"Riles I'll be right back" I softly smiled and made my way over to Jay

"Hey Charlie do you mind if I speak to Miles for a second" I used his fake name putting emphasis on it but still keeping my promise yet again, Charlie looked back at Jay and then looked at me

"Sure" he shrugged and walked off

I softly smiled and once he was out of earshot my expression changed I scowled and tried to keep from yelling at Jay

"What are you up to?" I asked crossing my arms, this time he wasn't getting away without giving me an actual answer

"Keeping my cover what do you think" he shrugged and I couldn't help but roll my eyes

"You're not leaving until you tell me" I snarled aggressively stepping closer

"Now now" he stopped and leaned a little closer

"There's no need to get aggressive on me" He whispered to me

He's just a constant reminder of my past and the things I've done, all the terrible horrific things I've done, we've done

"Then tell me" I backed up not wanting to draw attention to us

Jay scoffed and looked around "You just don't give up so you?" He looked back at me

"You should know me well enough by now" he scoffed and smiled

"Yeah you always were stubborn" I glared at him

"I am not stubborn" he laughed and I couldn't help but smile

"Yeah right... but it made you the best" the smiled slowly faded off my face

"You'll just have to accept this Ace I'm not telling you" This nickname I actually didn't mind at all, it wasn't a bad memory from our past— from my past

It was just our nickname, something only Jay called me it kinda made me sad to hear it

I honestly hate to admit it but I have missed him, he's been one of my only friends for my whole life I never thought what happened would and I would leave

"I'll figure it out" I pulled myself out of my thoughts and crossed my arms again

"I have no doubt about it" He smirked flirtatiously

Just then Lucas came up behind Jay and stood next to him looking at us both

"What's going on here?" Lucas's voice was tough and authoritative

Me and Jay both turned to the side to face Lucas

"Nothing at all" Jay forced a very obviously fake smile

"Maya and I were just" he paused "chatting" Jay then looked at me and winked

I rolled my eyes again "I just needed to talk to him since he had my earphones, I lost them on a run and luckily Miles found them" I was quick with thinking up lies,

Comes with practice I guess but I knew I had my earphones on me and it was just something quick I could say that could be believable since he works here

"Well Maya has come with me since we have work to do" he hasn't took his eyes off Jay since he came up us

Was Lucas jealous?

Lucas spoke forcefully and aggressively when talking to Jay "Thanks for stopping by Peterson"

This was getting a little tense, I walked up beside Lucas and grabbed his arm "Come on then Huckleberry let's go"

He didn't look at me "Sure let's go" he just kept glaring at Jay not moving

"Right well I'll be off.. Oh and tell Charlie Gardner I still need to speak to him" Jay forced another smiled and walked off

What was going on with Charlie? I really had to figure this out

"Are you jealous" I said smiling once Jay had started to walk off

Lucas looked down at me his expression softening "..No"

I giggled "Okay whatever you say" I smiled again and started to walk away to the rest of the group
