Summer slowly faded into fall and fall into winter, Christmas had passed and Stevie made favorite with the gifts she got the kids. They weren't anything special, she had gotten William a game that he wanted, Cole a pair of tennis shoes that he wanted, and Kate a little art set but now it was New Year's Eve, the kids were at their friend's houses leaving Stevie and Lindsey home with Stevie's family who had flown in from Phoenix for the Holidays.

Stevie and Lindsey were on the balcony in his bedroom, wrapped in each other's arms admiring the subdivision fireworks, when Lindsey let out a shaky breath.

"What's wrong?" Stevie asks.

"Um...Stephanie, we've not been together that long and I know that we both semi-recently divorced, and this is going to complicate things immensely, but...will you marry me?" Lindsey gets on one knee and presents Stevie with a gorgeous engagement ring.

"Lindsey...I got divorced about six years ago...yes I'll marry you!" Stevie laughs as he cheers and stands up, he spins her around and he slides the ring on her finger.

Stevie and Lindsey made the conscious decision to get married on January 5th, the kids were still on Christmas Break, Kristen had just left, and Stevie's family was still in town and they were both more than ready. They didn't want a long wait or a big todo about it anyway.

February

Having been married for about a month they had not had any court cases together and they were shocked. But their law firms and the Justice System itself were shocked when they presented their marriage license and Stephanie got a nameplate under Buckingham instead of Nicks.

It was Valentine's day and they had arranged for a nice night out together at a five-star restaurant which is something they rarely got to do.

"Mm, so I forgot to ask you earlier how was work?" Stevie questions.

"Well, it was crazy. A woman came barging into the office today and said that in 48 hours there was going to be a murder, a man would be stabbed in the back with a glass spear, and she'd be getting charged for it. She was nice enough, just one of those girls that bubble off unemployment." Lindsey says as the waiter bringing their food gives wide eyes.

"While she was there why didn't you ask her to read your fortune?" Stevie questions.

"No, no...no fortune, I don't want to know about the future. I would want it to be a surprise." Lindsey shrugs.

"Well, I just thought that you might've asked her if there was going to be something special in your future. Maybe something for both of us to share." Stevie shrugs.

That night the kids had gone to bed and Lindsey and Stevie had experienced a night of heated passion and were just laying there naked, basking in the after-sex glow when rushed loud knocks came at the front door.

"What in the hell...they're going to wake the kids." Lindsey groans bolting out of bed and grabbing at his pajama pants on the floor. He slides them on and ties his robe around his shoulders before making his way downstairs. Stevie groans and grabs her nightgown off the chair, just in the nick of time as the three kids walked into the bedroom. Lindsey had left the door ajar when he left.

"Mom, what's going on?" Cole questions. Very quickly after they got married and with a little reluctance on Kristen's part but she eventually gave in, Stevie signed adoption papers and they had started calling her mom, much to her amazement.

"I don't know kiddo. Just..just wait here and I'll go check." Stevie sighs walking out of her bedroom and closing the door behind her.

"I'm coming, I'm coming, I'm coming...Hold your horses." Lindsey calls running down the stairs.
