The tail end of her ninth week was upon her and she was nauseously sitting through a trial and she had to fight herself hard to not speak up. Lindsey was getting completely battered.

"Sheriff Wilks, on September 25th, the day before his murder, did you receive a telephone call from Noah Carter."

"Objection, calls for hearsay," Lindsey shouts.

"It's not hearsay he just asked him if he had a call." The judge argues

"Yeah but." The sheriff starts.

"I knew it, hearsay," Lindsey yells.

"Did he sound excited Harvey?" The prosecutor asks.

"He did." The sheriff nods.

"What did he say?" The attorney asks.

"He said his tires had been slashed and he thought that Logan Mason had done it."

"Your honor,"  Before Lindsey can finish the judge calls overrule and Lindsey starts clenching his fists.

"I'm showing you people's exhibit number five and I'm asking you to identify it."

"That's the knife I discovered in the decedent's chest when I went to the murder scene."

"And do you know who's knife it is?"

"Yes sir, the defendant's."

"Well, how do you know that?"

"Three reasons, the first, Barnie Hadley remembers selling it to him three years ago."

"OBJECTION, NO FOUNDATION"

"How do you know Barnie Hadley remembers selling it to him, Harvey?" The judge asks.

"He told me."

"That's good enough for me." The judge states.

"Second, everyone in town has seen that knife in Logan's possession."

"OBJECTION IMPROPER."

"Have you seen that knife in Logan's possession."

"Yes."

"GIVE ME A SECOND YOUR HONOR. JUST BECAUSE YOU KNOW EVERYONE IN TOWN DOESN'T MEAN ALL OF THIS ISN'T HEARSAY."

"Just sit down Mr. Buckingham."

"BUT YOUR HONOR!"

"I SAID SIT DOWN!" He screeches banging the gavel.

Lindsey is scowling and Stevie's brings her right hand up to her forehead and lightly shakes it. Recess is called and they make their way home. Lindsey just looks at Stevie and she knows, so instead of going into the house with Elise she takes him on a walk to talk him down. They're gone for about two hours, and when they get back Lindsey pulls her closer to him into the hall.

"If I lose. I lose and if I win I lose." Lindsey whines.

"Lindsey, you are doing your best here under difficult circumstances and you should be proud of yourself." Stevie reasons.

"They hate me." He shakes his head.

"No, they don't." She disputes.

"They hate me and I don't give a damn." He shakes his head walking into the kitchen.

"John, what are you doing here?" Lindsey questions.

"I got here about half an hour ago I decided to drive up this morning. If I had remembered that your Aunt was such a great cook I would've been here last night." He explains.
