On the Clock

'How long has that guy on the end been here'

'I don't know, at least since the three of us arrived.

I'd say it's been quite a long while.

Look at the colour of that robe . . . and the style.'

'A long while! It's positively obsolete.

Hangs on his frame like an old bed sheet.

'Do we know when the last time came by.

Was it dragging or did it fly?'

'No idea, he hasn't spoken a word.'

'Maybe he mumbled and nobody heard.'

'Well none of us want to get too close.

He's rather pungent on the nose.'

'Look, we're never supposed to be more than two

and now there's five so what do we do?

We have to know if time's on time,

the parking meter only takes a dime.'

'Give me a nudge, I'll pass it down.

Maybe we can stir this clown.'

**********

The nudge was passed and to this day

No one knows what he had to say

But all of us alive today

Know time keeps moving without delay
