[1]

When the sun shone from the dooryard window,

With the whisky veil like cloak sewn away,

We yearned, and yet shall yearn for the ever-glowing light.

Ever-glowing light to expel the darkness in us,

That smothering shimmer of veil to keep us unscathed,

And bring us to sleep, we pray.

[2]

O yonder did we pray,

For wishes to come true like they say,

O ye from the brightest star that it may,

Drowse us to eternal sleep as we lay,

O release us from the claws of nightly dismay,

Render us from tormentation and let us die,

[3]

In the solemn in some secluded place,

Like a swallow or a nightingale at its best,

Solemn the bird,

Like a wanderer lost in the paradise of unknown,

Sings faraway from his past and all that was there,

Song of the sentient life,

Song for a blissful night,

We sing the song all long the day and time,

[4]

All over the garland of roses,

O look how death comes as a delicate blessing,

And when the sun shall gleam again,

We will be free forever to stand out bright,

To feel the warmth and wallow in the light.
