Time Waste
Empty spaces, no faces, four of these fossilised watchers have served their time.
The first god Precambrian realising the vigil was too big for one watcher, splits in two, to become Archean and Proterozoic.
Archean, the creator, presided over the earth's formation from stardust to the baking of its first crust.
Proterozoic, the constructor, watched over the great condensation and the formation of the oceans.
Paleozoic, the architect, watched over the genesis of life and the fight for survival, of the new worlds, first trees and its earliest progenitors.
Mesozoic, the zoologist, watched over the coming and going of the largest and smallest dinosaurs.
Cenozoic, the developer, watched over the development of the continents, the final product of some five billion years of chaos.
Quaternary, the final moments, four geological eras have come and gone, we are now in the fifth, with the arrival of dominant mammals, we have gone from paradise to an ecological disaster, in less than two and a half million years, will Cenozoic's watch, mark the end of humanity?
A/N - The poem relates to the first photo containing five watchers, who are depicted as gods Archean, Proterozoic, Paleozoic, Mesozoic & Cenozoic watching over the five classic eras of the earth's evolution, from a ball of stardust to our current ecological disaster.
