Dec's PoV

"I'm sorry... it was stupid of me to think we could wait outside." Ant mumbled looking at the the river for something while rubbing his hands in a bout to gain some friction against the cold.

"Don't worry about it.... although it might help if I knew what we were waiting for though." I asked slyly, rubbing my own arms as I shivered. It was cold, the late December chill was merciless and went right through me, making goosebumps appear on my skin. I could practically hear Ant internally berating himself. I shuffled closer to the taller man's heat along the bench, moving into my familiar place, pressed against his side.

Ant didn't even need to think about it and opened his arms up to me before descending them around my small frame. He felt the low temperature of my hands and enveloped both of them in his larger ones. Just being in his arms, stilled my shivering. He held on tightly and pressed me against his chest so I was practically sitting in his lap. It was heavenily being wrapped up in his strong embrace, so intimate and I instantly warmed.

"Can't tell you, it's a surprise baby. I'm so sorry about the cold though." He mumbled into my hair, guilt lacing his tone. Inwardly I sighed, I loved him to bits but it hurt to see him so unsure and anxious. As I tipped and turned my head on his shoulder to look up at him, I gave him a positive smile and watched as he took a deep breath and forced myself to relax for me.

"Its fine Anth... I'm warm now anyways." I grinned, leaning back further into his chest and holding his arms to wrap them tightly around me as I closed my eyes and melted Into my very own, over-protective, walking, talking duvet.

"Love you." He whispered and I sighed contently before giving him a cheeky smile.

"Already saying the L words on the first date ay? What you gonna marry me next week?" I joked and Ant laughed looking down at me with a satisfied grin.

"I might just do that." He said smugly and I breathed in every ounce of the ancient confidence in his tone.

"Love you too." I whispered. He kissed my cheek and along my jaw, down to the sensitive parts of my neck, that only he knew how to find. After a few minutes I forced myself to open my eyes to prevent falling asleep in my comfortable position. It had just been an exhausting couple of days and I couldn't wait for the new year so that we could all finally have a long rest. If the universe would allow us.

The wait didn't feel like long but I wasn't focusing on the time cause to me it didn't matter too much. I got to sit and spend some time, relaxed, in Ants arms and that was good enough for me. We engaged in some small talk about our plans for the rest of the week, I'd told him about the weekend being fully booked for the New Year's Eve party I was hosting with Stephen at one of his homes around the rural edges of Newcastle. Ant admitted he was nervous but that didn't surprise me, even a little bit, I told him everyone was gonna be there, there would be food and fireworks display, it would be a great night. I think he understood what I wanted this New Year's Eve to Mark, a fresh slate for both of us, a way to signify the end of four long, hard, almost tortuous years. 1997 was a new year and I was hoping things were finally going to go our way for once.

My eyes flickered to how Ant checked his watch before bouncing his leg up and down nervously. "Any minute now." He grumbled. I furrowed my brow in confusion and looked around the empty park.
